KOMINE Tadatoshi
Special Selection: 18th Japan Football Hall of Fame in 2022
- Born in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan on 24 June 1945
As well as coaching both Shimabara Commercial High School and Kunimi High School in Nagasaki Prefecture, and producing strong teams that won multiple titles (including the Prince Takamado Cup, the National High- School Football Championship and the National High-School Soccer Inter-High competition), KOMINE also groomed numerous Japanese international footballers, including TAKAGI Takuya, MIURA Atsuhiro, and OKUBO Yoshito.
His passionate development of teams which toured tirelessly all over Japan (often taking on extremely strong opposition influenced many coaches, and contributed significantly to higher regional footballing standards—not only in Kyushu but throughout Japan as a whole.
KOMINE was coach of the Japan national U-17 team at the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Championship, which was held in Japan. This marked the first time ever that a Japanese team had succeeded in progressing beyond the group stage of a FIFA competition and advancing to the quarter-finals. This team also produced many players who went on to become Japanese internationals, including MIYAMAOTO Tsuneyasu, NAKATA Hidetoshi, and MATSUDA Naoki.
As well as coaching, KOMINE also served as Chairman of the Nagasaki Football Association and President of V-Varen Nagasaki.
