Japan submits the expression of interest form to FIFA in bid to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023

On 12 March, the Japan Football Association (JFA) has officially submitted the expression of interest form to FIFA for their bid to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. The submission of the expression of interest form is the initial step of the bidding process set by FIFA. The bidding process will take place in the order listed below.
The inaugural FIFA Women’s World Cup took place in 1991 in China PR under the name of the FIFA Women's World Championship. The tournament was renamed to the FIFA Women’s World Cup from the 2003 tournament. The eighth edition of the tournament will take place this year in France from 7 June to 7 July, and the 2023 tournament will be the ninth edition. Japan has made their appearance in all the World Cups since the inaugural tournament, winning the title in 2011 and finishing as the runners-up in 2015.

4 October 2019 | Submission of the bid book, the signed hosting agreement and all other hosting documents to FIFA |
March 2020 | Expected appointment date of the host(s) by the FIFA Council |
