Match Report

The Japan National Beach Soccer Team in the middle of their trip to America and Costa Rica held a training match against United States National Beach Soccer Team at 10 a.m. on Saturday 14 January.

The first period began with Japan’s ball and saw a wave of scoring actions immediately after the game started as MOREIRA Ozu struck the very kick-off shot into the back of the net. Two minutes later, OBA Takaaki with a combination with GOTO Takasuke netted the second goal home. In the 6th minute, after a quick restart at a corner-kick, KOMAKI Masayuki extended the lead to three goals with his goal.

Even after having a convincing lead, Japan composedly kept the possession of the ball and took the initiative of the match. In the 8th minute, Goto deflected a throw by goalkeeper TERUKINA Shingo with his head, which got fiercely put into the back of the net by Moreira Ozu before the first period ended with Japan’s 4-0 lead.

In the second period, Japan, taking advantage of the wind, created further chances. In the second minute of the period, Oba tallied his second goal of the day off a deflection of a corner kick, which gave his team the safe five-goal lead. However, Japan’s offence started wasting scoring opportunities they made due to the lack of the finishing touches to change the scoreline. Even after the third period started, and with the substitutions, the rest of the chances including a penalty kick were not converted before the first of the three matches against the USA ended with Japan’s 5-0 win.

On Sunday 15, the team will also have a training match against the USA from 10 a.m. local time in Fort Lauderdale.

Players' Comment

FP KOMAKI Masayuki (Tokyo Lequios BS)
As this America and Costa Rica trip started, we came out for this America match taking fatigue from the trip and the time difference as well as formations and communications within the team into our consideration. I think it turned out to be a fruitful one because we scored goals in good fashion including set-pieces. But we also made some mistakes and have things that needed to be improved throughout the match, so we will look into them one by one for the upcoming matches. The AFC Championship is coming up, so we want to take this team to the next level.

FP HARAGUCHI Shotaro (Inter Japan BS)
We won 5-0, but when you look at the details, we still have things to correct. The first aim we have is to win the AFC Championship. In order to achieve that goal, we want to start working on the assignments this match presented us along with our staff members. I personally want to improve my conditioning and the quality of plays to contribute to the team.
