Coach's Comment

Marcelo MENDES, Coach
There are no big surprises in the selection of AFC Championship members. I have previously invited and tested different players for the national team, and I am confident that I made the best choice for the tournament, Needless to say, there were other players who should have made the first team, but my current focus is to select the members to continue our excellent run from the previous year. It will certainly be a wonderful tournament especially for the young players to gain experience in the international competition, but more importantly we need to make sure that we perform well and book a ticker to the Bahamas where the World Cup will take place.

We have gained respect from the participating teams in the championship, but we shouldn’t be overconfident, but rather take a ‘step-by-step’ approach and focus our efforts one game at a time. We also shouldn’t be thinking about winning prior to any game since there are no winners until the game is actually over. I believe it is important that we put up our best efforts in every single game ahead of us. Concentration, discipline and tactics are all important for beach soccer, and I am confident that my players already understand the importance of those aspects as well.
