Japan national high school selection team eliminated in group stage of Dusseldorf International Youth Tournament

Japan national high school selection team entered the group round of the 51st Dusseldorf International Youth Tournament, looking for their second straight championships.

Game 1, Group stage, 17th April

Japan high school selection team 1,  Fortuna Dusseldorf (Germany) 0 (0-0 in the first half, 1-0 in the second half)

The Japan high school selection team took on Fortuna Dusseldorf, a host German club. Since it was a match between the defending champion Japan and the local team, it drew so much attention and many audience at the stadium despite of the late kickoff time of 7:30 p.m. Also, entering the Easter holidays, a lot of Japanese fans that reside in Dusseldorf visited the game and gave large cheering to the players on the pitch.
Japan struggled getting their own rhythm in the opening half, but Kido received a pass from Teramura and netted a goal shedding a defender on 38th minute, which ended up being the sole goal of the game and gave three points to Japan.

Game 2, Group stage, 19th April

On Day 2 of the tourney, Japan entered their second game with the same starting members from their first game, hoping to earn another victory in order to take advantage in the group round. But they failed to manage it as they just took two shots. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund downed Japan 0-2, partially thanks to a good performance by Japanese Maruoka Mitsuru, who's from Cerezo Osaka Under-18 squad.

Game 3, Group stage, 19th April

Japan national high school selection team 0, Red Bull Salzburg (Austria) 2 (0-1 in the first half, 0-1 in the second half)

Japan put Terada and Nakano in the starting lineup, but lost to Red Bull Salzburg, most of who m play on the Austrian national team and prevailed over the Japanese side with their techniques and well connections of the ball, with a 0-2 score.

Game 4, Group stage, 20th April

Japan national high school selection team 0, PSC Eindhoven (Netherlands) 1 (0-1 in the first half, 0-0 in the second half)

Japan played against PS Eindhoven, who had racked up one point, for the third place position in their final group stage game. In a contest in which an elimination from the tournament at stake, Japan were aggressive offensively and had more shots than their opponents, but wound up leaving the field as the losers with a 1-0 score and were ousted from the tournament finishing fourth place in their group.
