Second match report of the 94th Emperor's Cup: Consadole Sapporo vs Tonan Maebashi Satellite
07 August 2014
On Wednesday 6 August, the 94th Emperor’s Cup All-Japan Soccer Championship Tournament had the unfinished second round match between Consadole Sapporo and Tonan Maebashi Satellite at the Sapporo Atubetsu Park Stadium. Tonan Maebashi qualified for this tournament by defeating the top internal team of Tonan Maebahshi in the Gunma Football Association's President Championship final and then moved in to the second round of the Emperor’s Cup with a 2-1 victory over Club Fields Norbritz Hokkaido.
The match moved quickly right after the kick-off. On 3 minutes, MAEDA Shunsuke, of Consadole Sapporo, got the first goal by heading in KIKUOKA Takuro’s cross which was from left wing. Consadole Sapporo dominated the match after this goal.
However, Tonan Maebashi defended with tenacity. After Consadole Sapporo having created some good chances to score, KUDO Mitsuteru got their second goal by applying the finishing touch to MAEDA Shunsuke’s pass in to the penalty area on 38 minutes. This spurred the team on further and increased the pace of the match.
In the second half, Jeong SHUNG HOON added the third goal scoring from a cross on 66 minutes. He scored the forth goal from an intense goalmouth scramble just 2 minutes after his first goal. On 83 minutes, the substitute SONODA Jun struck the fifth goal after a corner kick. Tonan Maebashi played with patience, but could not win the match.
Consadole Sapporo is in to the 3rd round and will play against Shimizu S-Pulse of J1 at IAI Stadium Nihondaira on Wednesday, 20 August.

ZAIZEN Keiichi, Head Coach, Consadole Sapporo
I appreciate all the fans and supporters for cheering even under the terrible weather today. It was good to win. We suffered a bit from their long-ball passes and made some mistakes because of the slippery condition, but it was good anyway that the players could get goals in the first half and towards the last part of the match. I appreciate our players for playing very well under the difficult slippery condition.
Jeong SHUNG HOON, Player of Consadole Sapporo
It was nice to score at a good time in the second half. I could score those 2 goals because of the good assists by my team mates. We also did very well for defense to make a good result. I think it is important to keep this momentum in the league for the future games, so we will prepare well from tomorrow.
WATANABE Tomohiro, Head Coach, Tonan Maebashi Satellite
It was pity that we allowed Consadole Sapporo the first goal. I think we could have had bit more interesting match if we could score a goal, considering we did well in the beginning of the match. The players ran out of gas and could not keep up and allowed the opponents to score goals in the latter part of the match because they had played with their full power from the very beginning of the match.
SAITO Keisuke, Player of Tonan Maebashi Satellite
I could play with very high motivation because it was my first All Japan match in my football career. However, I had to learn how much I need to improve as a football player, so I want to keep training and practicing hard to come back to this type of All Japan matches. Hokkaido is my homeland and it was very nice to play in Sapporo Atsubetsu Stadium. Today we were supposed to push from defence, leaving the scoring opportunities to the midfield and forwards, but it did not work and we used too much of our energy in the first half. We want to solve our problems to achieve victory.
