On 11 October, the suspended second-round match of the 95th Emperor’s Cup All-Japan Championship "Yokohama F・Marinos vs MIO Biwako Shiga" was held at Nissan Stadium. Due to the heavy rain, the original match had to be suspended at Nippatsu Mitsuzawa Stadium.

The original match which was held on 6 September had to stop in the 29th minute of the 2nd half with the score at 1-1 due to heavy rain. The weather was not expected to improve and the match was suspended considering the players’ safety, and the rest of the match needed to be finished on another day.

In this resumed match, both teams had only 1 player to substitute since they had already substituted 2 players before the suspension. However, Yokohama had to replace 2 players SAITO Manabu and KOBAYASHI Yuzo for FUJIMOTO Jungo and NARAWA Yuta due to injury, and they were not counted as substitute players under the rules of the resumed match. Shiga also replaced a substitute player midfielder MOCHIZUKI Seiya to YANAGISAWA Jun also due to injury.

Earlier that day, there was heavy rain, but it stopped before the match and it kicked off at the point of 28 minutes 16 seconds of the 2nd half with Shiga’s goal kick. From the beginning, Yokohama took possession of the ball but they could not get one more goal to decide the match due to Shiga’s thick defence and the match went into the extra time with the score at 1-1.

In the 95th minute, Yokohama’s Ademilson headed the cross from right wing made by Narawa and it successfully found the net. Additionally, in the 104th minute, Yokohama’s ITO Sho made the 3rd goal receiving a deep pass from Ademilson. This goal decided the result. 36 days after the original match, Yokohama beat Shiga 3-1.

Yokohama F・Marinos will play against Oita Trinita in the third round match on 14 October in Oita Bank Dome.

Firstly, I would like to honor the players for showing their ability from the beginning. They were under the strong pressure, but right after the beginning they made good chances and they made their attack especially from the wings, taking control of the game. Therefore, I think the result is valid. For me, this is the first time to experience a resumed match after many days, and we had been under pressure because it is mentally advantageous for lower class teams to spend these days.

For the preparation, we spent a lot of time working on a tactic that attracts the opponent’s defence firstly and move the ball round to the wings to attack.

This is the thing we could not do well in the previous match against Shiga and I appreciate it. The players did what they prepared in the training and they could indeed score from crosses; I just want to honor their positive attitude. Especially I want to give applause to side players and Ademilson. He made the chances to score the 2 goals by making differences in his first touch and fending off the opponents.

It is a pleasing fact that we can move on to the next round. Being busy with more matches in a short period of time means we have won and stayed in the competition and that is a joyful thing as a football team. Yokohama has good players in both numbers and quality enough to stay in the top competition; we all keep working hard to prepare well for the upcoming match.

Regarding the 2nd goal that I made, I was expecting the ball would come toward the goal judging by Narawa changed his right foot to left to made the cross on the right wing. To be honest, it was my first goal by header as a professional player; I have tried once but it wasn’t counted due to off side.

Even though we tried to keep our defence deeper, Yokohama is skillful and they could come deeper, so what we expected was that they would make long passes and we could kick them back by making a press-defence. However, this didn’t go as we expected and we had more time to keep our defence deeper and the distance from where we could steal the ball was far from the opponent’s goal.

We have chances to have practice matches against J1 teams, but there are few chances to play for official matches, therefore I imagine the players were in panic by Yokohama’s ball possession and good ball control even at our stealing chances. Before this match, we had Japan Football League matches but we also focused on the Emperor’s Cup and had extra training sessions for today’s match.
