Match Report

On Friday 3 August, the Nagoya Oceans played against the Victoria University College FC (Myanmar) in their second group stage match of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018.

Prior to this match, the other group stage match took place on the same day as Dalian Yuan Dynasty FC (China PR) and Vamos FC (Indonesia) tied 3-3. With this result, Nagoya was in position to clinch their spot into the next round with a victory. After winning their first match 6-1, the Nagoya Oceans carried the momentum into their second match and displayed their dominance in ball possession. However, the team struggled to create opportunities against the Victoria University College FC side who constructed a block in front of their goal, as the match remained scoreless for the first 10 minutes.

As Nagoya sought for their opportunity with their quick ball movements, their first goal came on the 13th minute, when HIRATA Neto Antonio Masanori converted a corner kick from the right side. Three minutes later, ANDO Ryohei struck a beautiful direct volley to score their second goal off a corner kick, sending the match into halftime with a 2-0 Nagoya lead.

During halftime, Coach Pedro COSTA delivered a pep-talk to his players, “Nobody is satisfied with this score. You cannot wait for my signal to turn up the intensity. You must change the momentum with your own power and dominate the opponents.”

Despite taking complete control of the match, Nagoya struggled to extend their lead. Victoria University College FC on the other hand, created numerous chances through their counter attacks, but Nagoya’s goalkeeper SHINODA Ryuma showcased excellent saves to keep the Burmese side from scoring a goal. The long-awaited goal came in the 26th minute when LUIZINHO converted a pass delivered from Hirata to give Nagoya a three-goal lead. NISHITANI Ryosuke followed in the 35th minute to add to their tally as the Nagoya Oceans finished the match with a score of 4-0.

With six points under their belt, the Nagoya Oceans have now secured their spot into the next stage. The team will now face the home side, Vamos FC (Indonesia) on Sunday 5 August, which will kick-off at 14:00 local time to decide the group leader.

With our opponents playing deep in their territory, it was a very difficult match. However, even under such circumstance our goal remained to earn three points, and I am glad we were able to achieve that goal. This win means a lot to us, as it gives the team a positive vibe going into the final tournament. If there is something we need to improve, it would be the quality of play in the penalty area. If we can heighten the quality in the final third, we can gain a huge edge in the final round. We would like to emphasis on that aspect in our third group stage match and enter the match with great motivation.

Our opponents were anticipating for opportunities to initiate counter attacks, and there were scenes where we struggled against it, but the fact we managed to keep a clean sheet gives us great confidence moving forward. We will make sure to win our third match and advance to the final round as the group leaders. Please cheer for us from Japan!

Although we didn’t perform well as a team, it’s important that we got the win. We have clinched our spot into the next round, but we will continue to strive for a win in our next match. I will do my best to contribute for the team’s victory.

Similar to our first match, it was a difficult match. We managed to stay patient and score goals. We will give our best to win the third group stage match and progress forward one step at a time as a team.
