Okinawa training camp for Japan National Beach Soccer’s shortlisted squad (23 May)

24 May 2015

Okinawa training camp for Japan National Beach Soccer’s shortlisted squad (23 May)

The second and third days of the camp both had two-a-day practice, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
The practice went on in occasional light rain. The intensity of the team have been going up daily as the teamwork has been improved between the players who were on the Asia qualifiers roster, first call-ups, and the players who came back to the team after an absence.
The morning session on both days focused on fundamentals while the afternoon session had players in more game-like situations to review the tactics in detail.
Every session ended with shooting drills to improve the team’s ability to score.
Every player took turns and received passes one after another from various angles to shoot, sometimes by a header or even a bicycle-kick. When they saw an acrobatic finish by a teammate, it brought an ovation to the practice. There was also a competition of the number of goals scored, which made their intense training enjoyable as well.

Players’ Comments

OKUYAMA Masanori (Loewe Yokohama)
It’s an honour to be called up for this team.
The core of this team is the players who have been playing on this team for long. I want to learn the tactics and plays as much and soon as possible. I am enjoying the atmosphere of this team very much. We have good sense of intensity because the World Cup is getting closer, but still my teammates are very supportive in many ways. In the second half of the camp, I will keep working hard and showing what I can do well to make the cuts for the final roster.

YAMAUCHI Shusei (G.C.Nerine)
The World Cup draw was decided. We have new members in this camp, and I think on the first day there was a slight difference of intensity level among players. But since the second day that has been improved and we are doing good training in a good environment. We don’t have much time left before the World Cup. So we want to pay attention to details, compete against each other within the team and mature as a team. First of all, we will get ready for the first match in the World Cup against Portugal. In the AFC qualifiers, I was injured and couldn’t help our team very much, and I wasn’t happy about that. I want to do a payback for that bitter experience.

AKAGUMA Takuya (Dorsole Kitakyushu)
This camp has many players here and I get inspired by everyone on this squad.
As we get closer to the World Cup, our head coach expects more detailed things from us. So I want to make sure to show what he expects both as a team and me personally. The World Cup group seeding has been decided and we are in the same group as the host country Portugal and a great team like Argentina. The competition level is higher than that in Asia, so we want to get better as a team and ready for the World Cup. We played against Argentina in January and lost twice, so next time we really want to win against them.
