Japan National Beach Soccer Team's USA & Costa Rica expedition report (13 January)

The Japan Beach Soccer National Team, who are currently on a tour to the United States and Costa Rica, held the third day of their training camp on Friday 13 January. The team attended two training sessions, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, in preparation for the coming training game against the USA national team the next day.

During the morning session, the players went through 40-minute circuit training after a warm-up, focusing on improving their physical fitness. Then, they moved onto 3v2 game-format practice in front of the goal to work on offensive tactics to improve the accuracy of ‘breaking through the opponents’ plays. Lastly, the team checked their combinations from corner kicks to finish the morning session.

In the afternoon, the team started with a five-on-five intrasquad scrimmage straight after the warm-up. They went through similar tactics in the game to finish the one-hour session.

The players attended a meeting after supper. Coach Marcelo used a strategy board to explain about their tactics which they had been practising up until now and reviewed again the purpose of this tour.

The Japan National Beach Soccer Team will play a training game against the U.S. Beach Soccer National Team at 10:00 local time on Saturday 14 January.

GK KAWAI Yusuke (Sol Mar Praia Okinawa)
We focused on game-format training on the third day of our U.S. trip. It’s very windy here, and we needed to keep our plays compact than usual in order for us to properly control the ball and initiate effective attacks. We’ll play three consecutive training games against the USA national team from tomorrow and some more matches against the Costa Rica national team in the later part of the trip. Since those games are essential prior to the World Cup Asian Qualifiers, we’d like to win them convincingly to build up momentum.

FP OBA Takaaki (Dorsole Kitakyushu)
With one day to go before the match against the USA national team, we mainly focused on tactics today after going through physical training in the morning. I believe we communicated very well during the practice game while we shared our game plan as well as the purpose of this trip in the evening meeting. I think we got ourselves ready for tomorrow’s match. We would like to perform well and attain positive results in the coming three matches against the USA and the subsequent ones against Costa Rica, so we can head to the Asian qualifiers in prime form.
