Match Report
Japan had a game against CD Brihuega. The game is the second of three game series in the early part of the Spain trip.
In the morning the team visited Segovia city hall and the mayor of the city, which the team does every time they make a Spain trip. The female mayor who was just appointed last Saturday warmly welcomed the team despite her busy schedule, and they had a very meaningful time.
The game against CD Brihuega kicked off at 8:45 pm. Japan’s Hoshi Shota enjoyed chatting with his old teammates and staff as he used to play in Guadalajara, where the game was played.
Japan dominated in the beginning, and Morioka scored the first goal from a corner kick, one of the team’s strength. Although they wanted to keep building up a lead, the game was tied after a long throw from Brihuega’s goalkeeper. The first half came to an end as Japan could not own the pace as much as they wanted.
The shaky mood continued in the second half for Japan. They created many chances mainly from set-pieces only to miss the finishes. But just three minutes before the end of the regulation, after defending Brihuega’s powerplay, Morioka calmly laid the rebound in for a much anticipated 2-1 lead for Japan. The game finished right after to give Japan their second consecutive win.
Players' comments
Nakamura Yusuke (Vasagey Oita)
We could win the second game in this Spain trip after the first win. It has been a very good experience to match up against European players’ power and speed. We can’t experience them in Japan. I will keep trying to win as well as learning many things in the rest of the games.
Takita Manabu (Pescadola Machida)
Fatigue has piled up in us and we made many mistakes. It was very difficult in this game to control the ball and dominate the game. But speaking of the defence, our team’s strength, we did well enough from the start to finish.
Sekiguchi Yushi (Espolada Hokkaido)
I could play all game and I could see which part of my game was effective and which part I needed to improve. I will correct that throughout the rest of this trip and take advantage of this experience for the future. The team has won both games so far, so we will keep fighting to get a good result.
