Coach & Players' comments
Head Coach: Miguel Rodrigo
The first half was excellent in both offense and defence. Players performed much better than the first three matches. They turned aggressive defence to many attacks, and we played large part of the game in their half. But we were worried that we were tired and how long we could keep the good plays going. It actually happened. As they changed pace early in the second half, we panicked and lost a few goals. Our powerplay remains our crucial weapon being very consistent and effective. The result is disappointing but I am satisfied with our players’ performance.
Watanabe Tomoaki(Nagoya Oceans)
For me, this was the first match in Spain. In the first half we could play our style of futsal and led by two goals, but in the second half they came out more aggressively and they outscored us. We have to learn how to keep the ball when the other team’s defence becomes more aggressive. Also we failed to play aggressive defence ourselves. We sometimes had good attacks and shots, but couldn’t finish them with a goal. I personally had such missed opportunities, too, so I will make sure I score them in tomorrow’s match. We have only two more games left. We will play good games as a team to go home with wins.
Sato Toru (Umacon Zaragoza)
The first half and second half ended up totally different. We started the second half with 2-0 lead, but the rhythm in our defence started going wrong and we lost goals. It clearly showed that we need to learn how to choose the tempo of our plays depending on different game situations for example when we lead 2-0 or when we lose a goal and the opponent get more aggressive. As a result we lost this game, but it was positive that we could learn what we have to work on. We will take the two games left in Spain importantly to achieve our ultimate goal of winning AFC Championship.
Nibuya Kazuhiro (Vasagey Oita)
This match we went into the second half with two goal lead, and I was thinking the next goal would make a difference in this match. Of course they came out playing defence more aggressively than the first half, and the tempo of their offense got faster, too. But we kept the same tempo. We should have played even more aggressive defence and controlled our ball, but we couldn’t do it. As the result we lost three straight goals. We are convinced that, to win against good teams, we have to have a good in-game judgement depending on situations. But we did some good plays too especially in offense. In the next game, we want to correct our mistakes, play better and get a win.
Uchimura Shunta(Shonan Bellmare)
The second half of the Spain trip has started. It was no surprise that Spain’s Division 1 teams play much faster game. Their shot attempts were the best examples. They attack our goal without any hesitation when Japanese players tend not to shoot. And surprisingly their shots were very accurate, too. In this Spain trip I have been seeing plays I myself want to do, so I will keep learning a lot and trying them out. It was disappointing that we could have won this match, but we will take advantage of this experience and correct our mistakes ultimately to win the AFC Championship.
