Report on U-16 Japan National Team domestic training camp in Tokamachi, Niigata (7 Aug)

Report on U-16 Japan National Team domestic training camp in Tokamachi, Niigata (7 Aug)

Time has passed very quickly in this training camp since it started on 4th of August and they have only one day left before it finishes.

“98 JAPAN”, U-16 Japan National Team which is aiming for the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, have improved themselves day by day throughout the camp. In addition to improving their play style with sharpness and aggressiveness, all the players have been thinking about what to do to make the second match with Iran on 8 August better not only as a player but also as a team: They are certainly not satisfied with the previous 2-0 victory over Iran.

With only one day to go, this match is very important for the players in terms of being selected to be a squad member for AFC U-16 Championship. It will be a good opportunity for them to see how much they can play, expressing their strengths even under the high pressure like they will experience during the Championship. We will update the report of the match in this website.

YOSHITAKE Hirofumi, Head Coach
To prepare for the second match tomorrow with Iran, we mainly had training for breaking down the defense in front of the goal; this was one of our issues we found from the first match. I found that the players are too much concentrated on breaking down defense by passing so that they missed taking chances if they had just gone deeply inside by passing forward or shooting directly. I just want to train them to improve their sense to switch play quickly to go forward judging by the opponents’ defense. We had discussion meetings before and after the training, watching a match video to see what they could have done if they were the player in the video. By repeating this kind of discussion, they are more able to imagine what to do, so I expect them to express what they have learned during training in the match tomorrow.

HANYA Yosuke, FC Tokyo U-18
We had two training sessions in the morning and afternoon. Based on the issues which were found from the match yesterday, I paid attention particularly to see the opponents’ movement, when to stop and when to move the ball. Tomorrow is the last day of this training camp and we are having the second match with Iran. We want to finish the camp with a victory.

TSURUTA Kaito, Vissel Kobe U-18
I found some issues such as positioning, getting ready for shots and making dives with good assumptions of ball’s movement from the training today. I want to improve myself more in the future trainings.

FUJIMOTO Kanya, Tokyo Verdy Junior Youth
I was more careful watching the opponents and finding timings for when to go deeper inside of the defense in the training today. I want to finish this training camp with a victory over Iran, showing all of what I learned.
