Match Report

The second game for U-19 Japan National Team was against Shizuoka Youth. The squad can not afford to lose this game for leaving the possibility open for winning the championship. Shizuoka Youth, having beaten U-19 Korea National Team 3-2 in their 1st match, tried to get the ball as pressing hard the U-19 Japan side from the first half. But U-19 Japan, not stepping back to mounting attack of Shizuoka Youth, set up an offense with quick exchanging of passes and broke down Shizuoka Youth goal area.

In the 24th minute, Kawabe acquired the ball in right flank of the other side and sent through-ball to Ochi who was running to the center from left flank. Ochi scored neatly-placed opener with left foot, following superb building up of offense. Setting the tone of the game, U-19 Japan dominated the game in the first half as they moved the ball all over the pitch. Just before the half time, Ochi broke down in the goal area and fired shoot but didn’t score, ending the first half with U-19 Japan leading 1-0.

Bringing in five substitute players in the half time, U-19 Japan kept on targeting to get an additional goal by moving the ball in the second half as well. In the 61st minutes, the successful pass reached middle after broking down in right flank. Takagi get the ball and fired the shoot but failed to find the net. In the 64th minute, U-19 Japan not succeeding in scoring an additional goal. Just as losing the ball in own half, the other side picked that ball and dribbled through for shoot. The shoot found the net and equalized because of making own mistake.

Levelled U-19 Japan set up an attack again for scoring go-ahead goal but could not create a chance for making more inaccurate passes. The game ended 1-1 as it is. The penalty shootout was held and U-19 Japan won the game thanks to fine saves by goalkeeper Yoshimaru. It was a bitter victory for U-19 Japan side but acquired two points for beating Shizuoka Youth.

Comments

YOSHIMARU Kenshin (Vissel Kobe)
Personally it was disappointing game revealing many issues such as accuracy of the kick, coaching when off the ball, etc. As a team, we could not send a pass against the team pressing hard in front, only found ourselves playing up to the other side’s intention. I could not play effectively in ball possession tactics. There will be the game against Korea National Team two days later and do my best at the game.

FUJITANI So (Vissel Kobe)
I started the game with strong determination of never losing against Shizuoka Youth. But it was the game we were not able to demonstrate our strengths and revealed many issues. I want to have closer communications with team mates to make myself fit to play in the team. As the one more game remaining against Korea, I want to work on the full training and get ready for the game.

UCHIYAMA Yuki (Consadore Sapporo)
I think I have to take it seriously about the outcome of today’s game, supposed to have won the game overwhelmingly. More than half of members are new from previous day’s game, we were not satisfied with in terms of running amount and a passion for scoring the goal.
For the upcoming game, we would only have to play our style of football. I realized we should compete internally for getting a starting position. With no chance of winning the championship this time, we should have a common understanding of our goal is to bring out positive result in the AFC U-19 Championship.

SUZUKI Tokuma (Maebashi Ikuei High School)
It was must to get three points to win the SBS cup. But I was very frustrated we could not win the important game like this. I realized in the game there were something I still need to improve and I want to tackle on the issues and develop my skills. I want to hold a good training for winning the next game against Korea.
