U-16 Japan National Team domestic training camp report in Sugadaira, Nagano (8/22)
23 August 2014
It was third day of the training, the programs consist of holding high-mileage training in the morning and raising the quality of the team concept through game-format training. With strong momentum of trying to overcome accumulated fatigue, the players worked aggressively on uncompromising training menu.
The voices of “keep it up”, “louder voice everybody”, “last, last”, etc. were echoing through the Sugaidaira Highland. When you see them running frantically, it could be seen as if their back was suggesting the message “Overcome this camp and let’s go on to the World Championship together” as they take care of other players not only caring oneself.
The next day will be last day of the camp eventually. The squad will be reconvened on 26 August, holding camp just before the championship in Thailand, and the activity continues to the AFC U-16 Championship.
*98JAPAN is the nickname for the Japan Under-16 national squad, who aims to compete in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup 2015 in Chile.

YOSHITAKE Hirofumi, Head Coach
It was third day for physical training and introduced training focusing on middle-power which is different from other training. Amid accumulated fatigue for two day training, the players gave out everything they have. But I was sorry to see it was still the same they always get serious only in the last part of the training. I want to see them working out 100% from the beginning.
In tactical training, we focused on to increase the options to how to break through the other side placing many defense players in front of the goal. Taking advantage of 68 m width, I want them to read defender’s intention.
In the training by position, the defense players practiced defense for cross, forward players held training for shoot after getting through-ball. I am expecting them to improve their intentions like taking better positioning - difference of one or two steps, taking faster move by 0.1 second.
TANAKA Ao (Kawasaki Frontale U-18)
I worked on today’s training as I focused on “How accurately I can play in really tired situation.” Even when many other side’s players come to defense, it is definitely must to play accurately and send through-ball. The final qualifying round is coming up and I want to make most of tomorrow’s last training for us to get a ticket for the World Championship.
OGASHIWA Tsuyoshi (Omiya Ardija Junior Youth)
This camp was held in high ground for physical training, sometimes it was really hard for me but I worked really hard with determination of “this is going to be good for me.” Taking the advice by Yoshitake, head coach and coaching staff, I want to improve my skill in the afternoon training using the ball.
SHIMOGUCHI Wakaba (JFA Academy Fukushima)
As in the second day, there was physical training in the morning and mainly game-format training in the afternoon. The morning training was full of severe programs and really trained us up. At the same time, it made us encourage each other by voice much frequently. I will do my best in tomorrow’s training and finishing the Sugadaira camp in good way for the final qualifier.
