Match Report
The friendly against Sriracha Ban Bueng FC, a local Thai football club, kicked off at 19:00, which will be the same time as Japan’s second match of the AFC U-16 Championship against China.
98JAPAN tried to attack from the wings from the beginning against the opponent, who included U-17, U-18 and U-19 players. In the 13th minute, Yasui Takuya (Vissel Kobe U-18) switched the ball to his right foot in the left side of the penalty area and struck the opener, which arched beautifully to reach the far corner of the net. Japan sustained the one-goal lead until the end of the first half.
After 52 minutes, Hanya Yosuke (FC Tokyo U-18), who reacted to a forward pass, facing the goalkeeper one-on-one, calmly struck home, building a two-goal lead.
However, in the 66th minute, U-16 Japan National Team could not react well enough to the opponent forward’s dribble and conceded a goal.
Although in the past Japan tended to lose their leads, Hanya scored once more from a penalty kick. This improvement may have been due to the physical training in August. The U-16 Japan National Team won the game 3-1.
It was the last day of their training camp in Chonburi. With only under a week to go before their first match against Hong Kong, the players will move to Bangkok in perfect condition.
Comments
YOSHITAKE Hirofumi, Head Coach
98JAPAN have some phrases: control the game with our own sense of space; everyone reacts to passes; and pass the ball generally with one touch. ‘Generally with one touch’ requires all players to think where to position themselves in order to make one-touch play possible.
It was the last opportunity for the players to show off their skills before the championship in Bangkok. However, it ended up a very frustrating game, because the players couldn’t pass the ball harmoniously against an opponent spreading wildly across the pitch and they lost the ball in bad ways.
Although we won the game 3-1, the quality of the game wasn’t at all the one we were aiming at. Thanks to the physical training after the altitude training in Sugadaira, most of the players could move very well. They need to improve their reaction speed and their ability to predict the play quickly so that they can perform better on the pitch. There are some concerns, but I hope we can get ourselves into the best condition, with the quicker foresight in the game.
HANYA Yosuke(FC Tokyo U-18)
We had a practice game at 19:00, which is the same kickoff time as our second match in the AFC U-16 Championship. As it’s unusual for us to play this late, it was a very good practice before the championship. I came off the bench in the second half, and took a little time to take off, which is an issue I need to fix. I’m very pleased that I scored two goals, though. I’ll get myself ready for our first match against Hong Kong.
