Match Report

On the final scheduled day of the Intercontinental Cup, Japan, who qualified through the group stage in the third place yet lost to the UAE in a placement match, faced the United States again for the seventh place.

Japan, who entered the game with high motivation as they will compete in the Asia Beach Games right after this tournament, struck first as MATUO netted a goal capitalizing on GOTO's post play on 2nd minute. Goto has scored six goals after the fourth day, and he's got a good chance to win the individual title in the end.

Japan extended their lead with a goal by MOREIRA in the first period and they maintained their concentrations in the second and controlled the game. They added two more goals from OBA and Moreira to have a four-goal lead.

In the third period, Japan gave up a goal from a mistake in their own territory, but a pair of Dorsole Kitakyushu players in AKAGUMA and OBA provided Japan a goal apiece. After all, Japan notched six goals and it ended up being a contest that would lead to the Asia Beach Games.

Goto didn't score a goal in this match, but still gained the scoring title with six goals, along with three others.

The Japan national beach football team will remain in the UAE to have trainings before they move to Phuket to enter the Asia Beach Games.

Comments

GOTO Takasuke(TOKYO LEQUIOS BS)
I'm happy. It never gets old to win a scoring title. First of all, I would like to thank my parents for having supported me. And also I would like to appreciate all the people, including my club Tokyo Lequios, Beach family, my teammates, head coach and coaches on the national team. I've wanted to develop myself and have been sticking with playing abroad. Because of that, I've occasionally been criticized. But no matter what I was said by anyone, I've tried to do what I believed I should do with a mind-set, "You are going to regret what you said of me.'' It feels it's really paid off as I've finally been able to come up with a result being the scoring champion in a global tournament and I believed in myself. Of course, I still have tons of issues I have to improve on, but I would like to keep believing in myself so I can achieve my dreams.

AKAGUMA Takuya(DORSOLE KITAKYUSHU)
We played against the United States, whom we'd faced in the group stage, but our head coach told us to play with better contents than the previous time and play better defence more. We couldn't shut them down, but were able to hold them to the minimum goal. I think it was the result that our entire team was focusing. Individually, I could score my first goal on this trip, so both as a team and an individual; I think that we were able to play a game that would lead to the Asia Beach Games that we will go about next. I want to develop my condition from our training starting tomorrow before we enter the Asia Beach Games.
