Japan women's provisional Under-19 squad complete second of Kagoshima training camp

The Japan women's national Under-19 team entered the second day of their training camp in Kagoshima.
The team began the training with a ice break training using balls. After that, they played a mini game, in which they had three offensive players against two defenders in a limited space. The offensive players played thinking of how to capitalize on the outnumbering situation while the defenders had to adjust when they were outnumbered.

In the afternoon, many of the players spent the session for running in order to raise their condition. The squad was divided into four groups and ran a 300-metre track for raps within a time that were given by the team. For the first time, they had five raps with a pace of 1 minute, 30 seconds per rap. Four raps with a pace of 1:20 for the second time and three raps with a pace of 1:10…they had to get faster with fewer raps like that, and all of them were ordered to finish them with in the given time. The more times they'd run, the more fatigue they'd gain and it'd get harder for them, but all of them completed all the seven raps, inspiring with each other. They played a practical 8-on-8 game after that to wrap up the day's training.

In a meeting of the night, they had a group work. The 25 members were divided into five-a-team groups, and each decided their own slogan, like what kind of a team they wanted to make and what kind of a team they wanted to create. On that day, they first came up with their ideas. They will be expected to present each group's own theme in front of the whole members next time.

SHIMAMURA Yukiko(Fujieda Junshin High School)
We had mainly defensive training in the morning session today. I felt that I had to be clearer on where I should completely get the ball while I had to establish a body so I could play on par with opposing players. This is my first time that I've been called up, but I would like to exhibit my strengths as much as possible. Also, I want to be conscious about players of the world even during practices and play aggressively with a mind-set that I want to be better always.

We focused on our defensive plays in the morning today. We practiced in 3-on-2s and 4-on-3s, being aware of how defenders have to play under those outnumbered situations, and it made reassure that communication plays a significant role. Our older players and defenders give detailed instructions in every play, and I was able to learn from them a lot. I would like to actively speak louder and get the ball intentionally.

NORIMATSU Ruka(Urawa Reds Ladies)
During the morning today, we had trainings like 1-on-1s or 1-on-2s, in which you have to think of your own defense by yourself, while we played things like 5-on-5s, in which you have to play defense communicating with your teammates around you. Since I'm a center back, I would like to judge things by looking at the whole team, adjust positioning of my teammates so they can have better defense, and have better situational judgment by communicating with our goalkeeper when we get outnumbered. Also, because foreign players are superior to Japanese in terms of speed and power, I would like to get better defensively so I won't lose against them in 1-on-1 situations. And in the afternoon, we mainly focus on physical training. That's one of my weaknesses, so I want to overcome it and eventually make it as my strengths by taking some time on it. I want to have meaningful time in the remainder of the training camp while I do my best to showcase my strengths.

During the morning today, we trained setting a theme in defence. In man-to-man defense, I wasn't really able to play craftily, so would like to develop that part during this training camp, being aware of a sense of distance with other players and anticipating opponents' moves. In the meeting at night, we watched how the Nadeshiko players were having their individual training and that they were taking communication even during trainings on video, and it inspired me a lot. I know I still have a lot of things that I need to improve on, so I would like to try to overcome my issues, not just in regular practices but outside of them. I would like to have better communication with others and study about football more.

MIYAGAWA Asato (Nippon TV Menina)
The focus of the morning training was defence. We had a simulation practice of how to defend when outnumbering attackers – 2-on-1 and 3-on-2. Especially it was difficult to deal with 3-on-2 situation because I have to make a quick judgment and tell other defenders about who is going to be the first defender and priority for defence depending on various situations.I watched the video of AFC U-19 Women’s Championship in the night meeting. Japan players were not as strong as Korea DPR’s players in that game. Other video shown following that video showed Korea DPR’s players were physically inferior to Nigerian Players. I want to come up with an idea of how to get the ball from the players physically strong.

ANZAI Yuka (JEF United Ichihara Chiba Ladies U-18)
I had a training focused on defence this morning. I worked on 1-on-1, 2-on-1, 3-on-2, etc. and I allowed others to play freely for making unnecessary space between me and others, I want to take a right position, intervals to intercept the ball the moment the other player’s touch goes too big. I worked on physical training on the 300m track field first thing in the afternoon. It was difficult to keep pace for run through within set time.Following that training, we had 9-on-9 game. It was first time for me to play game in this team but I could shoot in run of play and intercept the ball by putting pressure on the other side. I want to talk to other members more for a better communication. Personally, there were lots of occasions when some crosses I sent were intercepted by the other side and I want to focus on every single play to overcome that. I am going to give it a try tomorrow as much as I can and generate good results.
