Match Report
They had the third day of the training champ and had a practice match (three periods of 30 minutes) against Cerezo Osaka Sakai Ladies.
Japan took the initiative from the beginning. After seven minutes, the forward MIYAZAWA Hinata, who reacted to a forward pass from the midfielder NAGANO Fuka, slotted the ball into the goal, striking the opener. Then in the 18th minute, MIYAZAWA once more received a pass from the defender TAKAHIRA Miyu, but could not take a shot against the opponent’s defence. The first period stayed 1-0 until the whistle.
After striking the opener in the first period, Japan continued their attack in the second period. After 22 minutes, MIYAZAWA on the left side, who received a pass from the defender KANEKATSU Rio, crossed the ball in front of the goal. After some confusion near the goal, NAGANO reacted to a loose ball just outside the penalty area, and struck a long-distance shot, building a two-goal lead. In the 51st minute, KOJIMA Seira ran towards a loose ball from a right corner kick, and added one more.
In the third period, Japan stayed ambitious for goals. However, they were pressed by the opponent. After 75 minutes, although the opponent, who ran through to the space behind the defender, faced the goalkeeper one-on-one, the goalkeeper INOU Maya saved the goal superbly. The score stayed 3-0 until the last whistle.
Head Coach and Players' Comments
KUSUNOSE Naoki, Coach
We watched Nadeshiko Japan’s match in the Round 16 of the FIFA Women's World Cup prior to our game and shared our final aim as well as our theme – “contribute to both attack and defence.”
In today’s training match we brought what we had shared to the game and played very aggressively. The players judged “when, who and how” to use the space calmly and bravely, so that they could take the initiative.
I think they started to understand the importance of it. On top of that, the players strove to improve their understanding of group tactics in both attack and defence, which was our task from yesterday. That led the team to today’s victory 3-0. Of course, we made many mistakes as well, but I believe we achieved more in “defending” compared to the previous camp.
KOJIMA Seira (Urawa Reds Ladies Youth)
I was very pleased that I scored a goal, as I was determined to do so today. In terms of the defence, we listened to the instructions from the defensive line and the goalkeeper and cooperated with them. However, we were occasionally intercepted through our mistakes in passing or trapping the ball. So I’d like to improve that. I’ll do my best in tomorrow’s training session in a good atmosphere with my teammates.
NAGANO Fuka (Urawa Reds Ladies Youth)
We played, bearing in mind the issues we found in yesterday’s game – to increase the accuracy of each play. We tried many different movements of attack, including intercepting the ball through a group-movement, coordinating each other. Among those attempts, I took a shot directly, receiving a pass from TAKAHASHI Hana, who reacted to a loose ball from UEKI Riko’s shot. I was pleased that I took a shot very calmly. I’d like to review today’s match to see our achievements and issues, and to fix the issues.
MIYAZAWA Hinata (Seisa Kokusai High School Shonan)
I joined this training camp of the national team for the first time. Although I hadn’t been able show off my strength due to being nervous, I picked up my pace again in today’s match, playing my style. I gradually started to feel more confident after striking a goal. I tried to stay vocal during the match, but time did fly very quickly. I think we had a really good match. I’d like to do my best in tomorrow’s training session, learning from today’s experience, so that I won’t regret anything.
YONEZAWA Moeka (Hinomoto Gakuen Senior High School)
We managed to keep a clean sheet today. The difference was that we stayed vocal during the match and we could switch back to defence swiftly, retaining possession. So we got a good result of 3-0 of today’s match. I think we achieved our goal in both attack and defence, which we set in yesterday’s meeting.
