Match Report

U-16 Japan Women's National Team short-listed squad had the second day of their training camp and played a training match (30 minutes x 4) against Kamimura Gakuen High School (Men's team).

Just after one minute when Japanese players were not into the match, they allowed the opponents to break through the middle of the defensive line and then conceded an early goal. Despite being dominated by the opposing speed, Japan managed to create a chance.

In the 8th minute, striker TAKAHASHI Hana ran through for midfielder ISERI Natsuki's pass and dribbled up on the right flank. She beat a defender to send a pass into the box, but her pass did not meet any of her teammates.

In the second period, the opposition scored their second goal from a right corner kick in the 35th minute. In the 37th minute, forward UEKI Riko responded to Iseri's through ball but just missed to take a shot. Then in the 39th minute, Kamimura Gakuen broke down the left flank before netting the third goal.

With a determination to get a goal, the Japanese bench reshuffled the lineup in the third period. However, the boys team scored other six goals in a row in the 62nd, 66th, 74th, 80th, 81st and 88th minutes, taking advantage of their speed. Although Japan went aggressively to score a goal in the fourth period as well, they allowed the seven more goals. The match ended up in 16-0.

The score margin was large, but the match against physically-stronger high school boys turned out to be a precious experience for them.

Coach and Players' Comments

KUSUNOSE Naoki, Coach
On the last one-month run-up to the AFC U-16 Women's Championship, The Kagoshima camp started with the concept that we instil and improve the team tactics. In the first training match, we conceded a goal early on to the opponents with the speed that we'd never experienced before. While we were dominated by their speed and power, we gave up only one goal, working hard up front, playing tenaciously in the midfield and committing ourselves on defence. But the opponents did not allow us to play in our favour.

Even during the stretches when they had their rhythm, we sought attacking chances while defending. And we tried to improve the pace and quality of supporting each other to play on counterattacks. But in the end, those were halted by the opponents who hit their body at the stage of our final passes. For the AFC Women's Championship, we will get used to speed and try to improve speed of decision-making.

KANNO Oto (Nippon TV Menina)
The high school boys have got better speed and skills. But in the match, we found out what we were capable of. Even so, we conceded many goals and were not able to score any goal. We will try to improve what we can improve by tomorrow's match.

SHIBAYAMA Fumina (NGU Nagoya FC Ladies)
The opponents were fast and we struggled to cope with that. And we lost our cool a lot of times as their pressure was fast. I think the teams in the AFC U-16 Women's Championship have also got speed and power. We will try to cope with them.

KARAHASHI Mayu (Albirex Niigata Ladies U-18)
I knew speed and power the high school boys of the same age group have got were better than us. And even when we put pressure, they ran past us with us failing to stop them. And when we were wondering where to pass, they hit their body to us and robbed the ball. Tomorrow's match is against junior high students. We are determined to play with must-win mindset.
