Match Report
U-17 Japan Women’s National Team short-listed squad played training match (30 minutes x 4) with Hyogo Prefecture’s Hinomoto Gakuen Senior High School in the third day of their training camp on 27 April.
Completely different from the sunny day of the day before, the game kicked off at 15:45 in a rainy condition. Japan took the momentum from early and created chances. In the 3rd minute, forward UEKI Riko tried to head a cross from midfielder MIYAZAWA Hinata but she couldn’t put it at the right timing. In the 13th, midfielder NAGANO Fuka took the ball from the opponents in the middle and passed it to forward MATSUMOTO Manaka, who was running up on the right side. Matsumoto fired a shot after that, but it went off the goalmouth. Japan kept creating chances afterward, but weren’t able to connect them for a goal and they ended in a scoreless draw in the first period.
In the second period, forward TAKAHASHI Hana dropped a long pass from TSUTSUI Riko with her chest, and Miyazawa made a loop shot in the goal in the 38th minute as Japan took it with a 1-0 score.
In the third period, Japan played with a different squad. In the 70th minute, midfielder TAKIGAWA Yume dribbled up the field and launched a low cross into the box. Takahashi sneaked into the space between a Hinomoto defender and the goalkeeper, taking a shot. She netted it to make it 2-0. In the 76th and 77th, Takahashi added two more on her own and in the 81st ENDO Jun scored another to give Japan a 5-0 lead.
In the fourth period, Japan didn’t get loose. In the 110th minute, Ueki took the ball away from a Hinomoto defender and dribbled up the field. She dodged the Hinomoto goalkeeper and took a shot. She nailed it to give Japan a 6-0 lead and the game ended as it was.
Coach and Players' Comments
KUSUNOSE Naoki, Coach
Offensively, we tried to create some chances by moving the ball, but like we did yesterday, we had few moves to take the space behind the opponents and weren’t able to run efficient attacks. I felt that we would still need more time to share what we are trying to do and carry them out. Defensively, we need to develop our collectiveness and continuity, and this game ended up being one that made us realise that we have issues to fix until the world tournament. Tomorrow is the final day of our camp, but I would like our players to work harder on their training with the awareness of the global standard and pride and responsibility in mind.
NAGANO Fuka (Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies Youth)
I worked in this training camp with a theme to not let opponents change her position defensively. In today’s game, I played with that in mind. There were scenes that I played closer to an opponent but let her change her position and I wasn’t able to play collectively with my teammates, so I will have to reflect on it. Also, offensively, each player wasn’t running well and we had hard times finding ways to score, so we are going to have to improve on that, too.
TAKAHASHI Hana (Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies Youth)
In today’s training matches, it’s positive that we had another game we gave up no goals to the opponents after yesterday. But we struggled adjusting our issues that we came up with in yesterday’s game, while we made many careless mistakes as well. In order to compete on par with the rest of the world, we are going to have to reduce our mistakes and it’s important for us to play at our full strength at any time, so we are going to have to work harder and I would individually like to grow more.
