Match Report

On 25 August, the last day of the training camp, U-17 Japan Women’s National Team Short-listed squad had a training match consisting of three 30-minute games against Kanawaga University Women's Soccer Club.

In the first game, Japan took the early initiative and created goal-scoring chances. In the 7th minute, MATSUDA Shino on the right wing connected with UEKI Riko, scoring the opening goal. Two minutes after the goal, in the 9th minute, Ueki scored another goal and stretched their lead. The remainder of the game was scoreless, and Japan took the lead 2-0.

In the second game, Japan implemented their 'first defence' strategy, which they have been recently focusing on, and took control of offence. KARAHASHI Mayu received the ball in the centre of the pitch and dribbled up front to take a middle-range shot, but it went over the cross bar. Japan continued to attack aggressively, and, in the 55th minute, substitute ENDO Jun scored their third and only goal in the second game.

In the 2nd minute of the third game, Endo picked up a loose ball parried away by the opponents’ goalkeeper and pushed it back into the net. After their fourth aggregate goal, Japan kept attacking but they couldn’t add to their scoreline. Japan won their training match with an overall score of 4-0.

In the wrap-up meeting of the training camp, NAGANO Fuka told the team: “let’s win the World Cup!"

Japan will compete in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016 starting from 30 September. Their first match will be held on 1 October.

Coach's and Player's Comments

KUSUNOSE Naoki, Coach
It is the final day of our training camp. We prepared for the match by improving the issues found in the practice sessions and the previous training match on 23 August. In defence, we communicated well to end the match with a clean sheet. In offence, we scored goals but still needed to reduce the number of careless mistakes. We will focus even more on improving our passing accuracy. Now we have less than a month before the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2016. We will do our best to win two-consecutive U-17 Women’s World Cup titles, making the most of what we have done.

NAGANO Fuka (Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies Youth)
For today’s match against Kanagawa University Women's Soccer Club, we kicked off focusing on quicker decision making regarding who will be the ‘first defender.’ Our forwards moved more dynamically as the ‘first defence’ helped the midfielders to collaborate their efforts to steal the ball. However, there were stretches (as we progress in the game), where we lost our focus. We found both our strengths and weaknesses from the match today, and we need to work on improving our weak points prior to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
