Match Report
On Thursday 14 September, U-19 Japan Women’s National Team faced hosts China PR in their last match of the NSWI Cup CFA International Women’s Youth Football Tournament Duyun 2017.
The game kicked off at 19:35 in the main stadium where over 10,000 local supporters came to cheer for the home team. However it was U-19 Japan who took the initiative of the match and silenced the crowd with an early goal scored in the 11th minute. High pressing paid off as defender KITAMURA Nanami recovered the ball and the Japanese squad hit on a quick counter by connecting passes in midfield and finding forward ENDO Jun at the end of the play, where the young Nadeshiko striker made no mistake to nail home an opener for her side. Another chance was fashioned on 20 minutes, when forward MIYAZAWA Hinata became a receiving end of a fine exchange of passes between midfielders KANNO Oto and SATO Mizuka, but her shot blazed over the bar. The game stayed in the balance for the remainder of the first half and Japan took a 1-0 lead at halftime.
U-19 Japan continued their threatening attacks in the second half as they looked to double their advantage. In the 63rd minute, midfielder Sato orchestrated an excellent scoring opportunity for substitute forward MURAOKA Mami, but her cut-back could not pick out a Nadeshiko shirt inside the box. On 82 minutes, forward MIYAMOTO Kano was put clean through by Kanno, but failed to take advantage of the one-on-one chance with the opposing goalkeeper. Japanese women were just about to secure three points in the match, but instead were forced to a draw with a last-ditch effort that salvaged a point for the hosts before regulation time. Sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw with China PR in their last game, the young Japanese squad ended the tournament in third place.
Coach's Comment
IKEDA Futoshi, Coach (U-19 Japan Women’s National Team)
I am satisfied with the competitive spirit that was displayed by my players, but at the same time they lacked the experience to finish off a game with a win. This tour has also provided us with an excellent learning experience of playing in front of an away crowd and acclimatising to the local conditions as well. We will be making the final preparations for the upcoming AFC U-19 Women's Championship next month.
