【Match Report】U-19 Japan Women's National Team defeat Panama 4-0 in the SUD Ladies Cup 2023

On Friday 19 May, the U-19 Japan Women's National Team played the U-19 Panama Women's National Team in their second match of the SUD Ladies Cup 2023 in France, winning 4-0.

The match started with Japan taking the initiative, as SASAI Chinari (Nojima Stella Kanagawa Sagamihara) converted the cross delivered by KASHIMURA Nana (Nippon TV Tokyo Verdy Beleza) to give Japan the lead in the 20th minute. After SAKAKIBARA Kotono (AC Nagano Parceiro Ladies) doubled the lead in the 25th minute, UJIHARA Rihona (Nippon TV Tokyo Verdy Beleza) capitalised on a goalkeeper’s deflection to extend the lead to three goals in the 37th minute.

Despite dictating the pace of the game, Japan struggled to find the back of the net in the second half, until NEBU Momoko (Yamato Sylphid) scored the team’s fourth goal in the 91st minute, as Japan walked away with a comfortable 4-0 victory.

Players' Comments

DF #6 SHIRASAWA Yurie (Albirex Niigata Ladies)
I am glad that we were able to keep another clean sheet following our win over Cameroon. I made a conscious effort to carry the ball, but I felt the need to make better decisions on my actions after that. We will give our best effort to prepare well for our final match against France and try to end the tour on a high note.

MF #9 UJIHARA Rihona (Nippon TV Tokyo Verdy Beleza)
It is great that we were able to win back to back matches. I started out as a defensive midfielder, a position which I am not particularly familiar with, so I concentrated on establishing the team's rhythm from the back. While the team dominated the ball possession, we saw many areas in which we need to improve on, including the ball speed and quality of our passes, so those are something that we need to improve on ahead of our final match against France. Although I was able to contribute to the team’s victory by scoring a goal, I want to play more aggressively and enjoy the experience with my teammates. We will do everything in our power to finish off the tour with a win.

FW #12 SASAI Chinari (Nojima Stella Kanagawa Sagamihara)
I came into this game with the intention of scoring a goal for the team, and I'm happy to say that I did so early on. Everyone maintained their focus throughout the entire game, and it was fantastic to see our team keep a clean sheet in back-to-back games. However, I thought I could have displayed my dribbling skills and scored more goals. Even so, competing against teams from other nations was a great learning experience for us. We want to work as a team to prepare well for the final game so that we can take home the title.
