Match Report
The U-15 Japan National Team played the third and final group league match at the 13th Delle Nazioni Tournament against Austria, and a 6-2 win concluded the preliminary stage with the three consecutive victories.
Even though postponed by one day due to heavy snow, the match was played much thanks to the effort by local organising staff to remove snow off the pitch. It was another cold snowy day, but the opponents Austria came out very aggressively to rob the ball upfront with their eye on advancing to the semi-final. Japan were composed from the beginning of the match to deal with the opponents’ charges and looked for their chance to attack.
Four minutes into the match, Japan obtained a corner-kick opportunity, which midfielder ISHIDA Ryotaro put home in the end. After scoring the opener at a favourable timing early, defender ENDO Kaito sent a through ball forward from left flank in the 10th minute. Forward BROWNE Noah Kenshin left-footed it, even with defenders around him, for the second goal for the team. Later, midfielder YAMASAKI Taichi repeatedly kicked long feeds to the frontline, but those were not materialised into additional goals. Then in the 34th minute, Endo again initiated a successful attack when midfielder ODA Yutaro took a pass from Endo to composedly beat the goalkeeper and extend the lead to three goals. However, Japan’s careless mistake led to a goal against before the first half ended 3-1 in favour of Japan’s young squad.
During the halftime, coach MORIYAMA Yoshiro pointed out to his players that receivers needed to communicate their intention for a ball and the team’s aggressiveness toward goal was not enough. Then the team responded to his coach well from early in the second half. In the 39th minute Endo struck an impressive long-distance blast to the upper right corner of the opponents’ goal off forward YAMAZAKI Ryosuke’s pass. In the 46th, good ball movement resulted in midfielder YAMADA Fuki’s goal. Although they conceded another goal to the opponents by failing to clear a corner-kick, in the 64th minute Ishida headed in the deflection of Japan’s own corner-kick. Japan maintained their concentration and continued attacking until the end and grabbed a 6-2 victory.
As a result, Japan finished the group league atop with three straight wins. The semi-final is scheduled on Friday 29 against Russia.
Players' Comments
SUZUKI Zion (Urawa Reds Junior Youth)
We allowed a few goals today, but it was good that we kept playing to get the win. Those two goals we allowed were the results of many mistakes we made. So we as a team will discuss what is missing and how we can cut down mistakes in the next match. I personally was able to predict effectively the balls reaching the space behind defenders and rushed for those balls. What I need to do better is to have a broader vision and make better judgements according to situations. As we have played each match, our communication on and off the pitch increased. Our aggressiveness and combinations have got better, too. We will keep playing each one of the matches we have left carefully with the strong pride of Japan National Team in our mind.
INOUE Miki (Ventforet Kofu U-15)
We used a different system in the first half from the one we used for last matches. But I think we adjusted well by communicating with each other and making flexible decisions on the pitch. But we have look back at how we allowed a goal right after we scored. Me personally, I actively got involved in attacking and sent a few good feeds. What I couldn’t do well was reading the opponents offence and intercepting it. We have been very good chemistry-wise, so in the next match we want to play altogether including guys on the bench.
BROWNE Noah Kenshin (Yokohama F・Marinos Junior Youth Oppama)
It was good that I scored a goal, but I was still not aggressive enough to shoot the ball and I didn’t have many chances. I made more mistakes in controlling the ball and lost more of situational battles on the ball than the last time I played. I lost the ball a lot. So that’s something I need to correct. I want to keep working on it even in practices with a better mindset. Next match is against a very good team. So I want to straighten up myself and go all out for it.
