Match Report

U-15 Japan's second match in the SPORT FOR TOMORROW South Asia - Japan U-16 Football Exchange Programme saw the meeting against U-16 Nepal National Team, who secured their first win in the opening game as well.

Japan took the early initiative but struggled to score against solidly-defending Nepal. But in the 18th minute, defender SAKO Maaya opened the scoring with a towering header off UEDA Keita's corner kick. Japan picked up their rhythm thereafter as they added four more goals including KONDO Kuraba's hat-trick to take a commanding 5-0 lead before halftime.

Japanese squad maintained their offensive pace into the second half and tallied four more goals, ending the match with a sweeping 9-0 win.

Japan will play their third match of the tournament against U-16 Bhutan National Team on Tuesday 14 March.

Players' Comments

MF #10 KONDO Kuraba (Cerezo Osaka U-15)
Since my teammate YOSHIDA Yuji (Cerezo Osaka U-15) scored a hat-trick in yesterday's match, I was motivated to score goals as a forward player today. I'm happy to get good results, but we still have one more match left. I will try to attain similar results in the next match as well.

FW #11 YAMATO Ren (Consadole Sapporo U-15)
I was thinking about the issues I need to improve in today’s match. Unfortunately, my display was not satisfactory. I will be looking to improve my performance while making significant impact in the remaining match by showcasing my strengths and skills on the pitch. The environment such as climate and food in Sri Lanka is considerably different from Japan. However, I am not blaming the current circumstances, but rather finding the need to adjust quickly to the local conditions and constantly perform at a high level.

DF #5 SUZUKI Kaito (Jubilo Iwata U-15)
Despite winning the game with a huge margin, I am not satisfied with our performance today. We still have many issues we need to sort out. One of the positive takeaways from the match was that we kept a clean sheet. We are looking to perform better in the final match and finish the competition on a high note.
