Match Report

U-17 Japan Women’s National Team short-listed squad had a training match against 15-16 years old players of FC Machida Zelvia Youth. Under the rainy weather, the match kicked off at the Tokinosumika Ground B at 15:30.

Japan ended the first game 0-4 in the heavy rain. For most of the match, they were not able to settle their ball in front of the opponents with better speed and fitness.

For the second game, Japan changed all the players from the first game and two trainees, YONEI Honoka and ISERI Natsuki (JFA academy FUKUSHIMA), were selected to start the game.

In the 34th minute, KARAHASHI Mayu took a shot after receiving the ball in front of the right side of the penalty area, but it went over the post. In the 37th minute, KITAMURA Nanami took a shot getting the ball from ENDO Jun, but again her attempt could not find the net. Even though Japan kept attacking, they ended up conceding 4 goals in the second game as well.

In the third game, most of the players from the first game joined back to the pitch.

In the 76th minute, UEKI Riko connected from the cross by CHIBA Remina from the right side, netting it home, but the goal was disallowed due to offside. Right after this shot, in the 77th minute NAGANO Fuka smashed a middle-range shot, but it went over the cross bar and the game ended 0-4.

In the 10 minute of the fourth game, KARAHASHI Mayu passed the ball to left wing KOJIMA Seira, who took the shot, finally finding the net. The players continued to run on the pitch but they fail to add to the scoreline. The training match ended with the overall result of 1-14.

The team will have other training session today.

Coach and Players' Comments

KUSUNOSE Naoki, Coach
For the up-coming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016, we had training match against male players in the same generation for our players to experience speedier plays and quicker passes. We had to spend most of the time on defence. We found several issues in this match, including quickness in decision making and overall speed. We need to sort these issues out during this training camp (for the World Cup).

CHIBA Remina (Fujieda Junshin High School)
Today we had the training match against male players with stronger physical strength and better speed. I want to pay more attention to ‘first defence’ since this is the initiating point of defence. To compete at the world level, we want to improve our quality of play and our individual skills.

TAKAHASHI Hana (Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies Youth)
In the training match today, we ended up conceding many goals because of the mistakes that we made. We couldn’t break through their defence to make any chance due to their quickness and physical strength which were different from what we experienced on a daily basis. However, I believe that most of the teams in the world-level competitions will be similar to what we experienced today. We will have to compete with strong mentality and determination on the pitch to win these future competitive matches, so I need to work even harder from tomorrow. I will reflect upon the issues found today and work on them to improve as a team.
