Japan U-19s win Vietnam tournament

The Japan U-19 team won the Nutifood Cup international friendly tournament in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, after beating Italian club AS Roma 1-0 in their third and final game on Friday.
Sekine Takahiro, of Urawa Reds youth, struck the game’s sole goal in the 48th minute, his second strike in the four-team, round-robin tournament.
Suzuki Masakazu’s side finished tied with Tottenham Hotspur of England and AS Roma on six points, but they beat the European teams with a better goal difference. Hosts Vietnam finished fourth with no points.
Midfielder Minamino Takumi of Cerezo Osaka, who scored twice in Japan’s 7-0 win over Vietnam in Game 2 on Wednesday, was named the MVP of the tournament. Japan’s Takagiwa Toru won the Best Goalkeeper prize.
Japan started the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Tottenham on Monday.
