U-20 Japan women's squad hold practice sessions on second day in Austraila to prepare for coming World Cup

The U-20 Japan Women's National Team had practice sessions on the second day of their training camp in Australia.

Under the clear sky without any clouds, they began their practice with passing and controlling exercises, paying close attention to observing the players who are positioned diagonally. After that, they moved on to four-on-four drills with two neutral players. Then, they went through three-on-twos, focusing on playing under ‘outnumbered situations’ and wrapped up the morning sessions.

In the afternoon, they worked on five-on-fives with the theme of building up plays and finished their day by playing a nine-a-side intrasquad scrimmage.

Players' Comments

MF #15 MIYAGAWA Asato (NIPPON TV BELEZA)
We worked on how we construct the offence from the sides and build-up plays in the afternoon session. We were instructed to play close attention to both passing speed and accuracy when we attack from the sides, since passing speed is necessary to make the opponents off-balance, but if we focus solely on speed then we might lack the accuracy to construct effective offensive plays.

In the build-up training, while getting pressure from the opposing team, we practiced thinking about the location of the distant teammates and the forward players. This is important since if we pass only to the teammates nearby, then the opponents can corner us and we will end up losing the ball. We would like to capitalise on today's practice going forward and improve ourselves as much as possible.

MF #20 HAYASHI Honoka (CEREZO OSAKA SAKAI LADIES)
We worked mainly on our offensive plays in the morning practice. In the training focusing on quick transition attacks, I tried to finish the plays with a shot, while netting them with consistency. I believe when you attempt a shot, you may end up creating different passing routes or catch your opponents getting off-balanced.

In the three-on-two drills, we focused on coordinating plays to end them with a shot. On the defensive end, the players attempted to delay quick transitions and get themselves in the line of shots. We were also coaching each other to defend solidly even when we were outnumbered and connect them to our subsequent offensive plays. We would like to improve our conditioning and take advantage of this training camp for the upcoming World Cup.
