Match Report

Japan’s second match of the Bahrain U19 Cup was against U-19 Bahrain National Team. Japan scored the first goal in the early stages of the 1st half. In the 9th minute, Japan quickly restarted their attack from a left wing corner kick. ITO Ryotaro’s left foot shot was blocked by the opponent’s defender, but KAMIYA picked up the cleared ball and smashed a shot to top right corner of the net. After the Japan’s opener, they kept control but in the 31st minute Bahrain stole the ball due to a Japan mistake near the centre circle. They broke through the centre and successfully equalised. Not long after the equaliser, Japan got a free kick on the left wing in the 34th minute; NODA jumped on to DOAN’s free kick and pushed the ball into the net. Japan ended the 1st half 2-1.

In the 2nd half, Japan tried to score more but they made several passing mistakes and could not find Bahrain's net. In the 57th minute, Bahrain got a free kick. They moved quickly and a player sneaked on to Japan's right wing and successfully equalised by their set play.

Japan kept attacking Bahrain's goal but they couldn't get good offensive rhythm to score. In the 87th minute, Japan finally got the decisive goal. Japan stole the ball in the Bahrain's half. Then they broke into their penalty area from centre. In an intense goalmouth scramble in front of the goal, Ogawa broke through the defence and made a shot with his right foot. Japan ended their second match with a 3-2 victory.

Players' Comments

DF #3  NODA Hiroki (Gamba Osaka)
This trip is a simulation of the AFC U-19 Championship for us, and we had to win this match against Bahrain today, after losing the first one against Mali. It was difficult since we were drawing until the end of the match, but nobody including our substitute players, staff, and supporters gave up until the end and I believe that this attitude became a big push to score the third goal by Ogawa. Personally I want to improve myself since I made some simple mistakes in the 2nd half. It was good that we could beat Bahrain today, but there’s no meaning if we lose the next one against Mexico. We keep good communication amongst each other and will get ready very well.

MF #7  KAMIYA Yuta (Shonan Bellmare)
I have played as a squad player after a long time. When I heard the National Anthem of Japan before the match, my heart was filled with a sense of responsibility, and I was happy to come back to the national team. It was good that I could score the opener, but I still want to think about what I should have done when we made easy mistakes and conceded goals. I think this victory gave us a good lesson as a team. We still have the chance to get the title, so we keep being hungry to win. I will do my best to contribute to the victory of the team.

FW #11  KAKITA Yuki (Kashima Antlers)
I am happy to be called up to this trip in Bahrain. This is my first trip the other country as a U-19 squad player and I was nervous at first, but I have communicated with the other teammates well, making most of the time off the pitch. However, I’m not satisfied with myself; as a forward player, I wanted to score. Anyway it was good that the team won in the end. This competition is heading towards the end, as a player and as a team, we want to win the last match to finish this competition with a positive feeling. I will do my best to score in the next match.

MF #14  ITO Ryotaro (Urawa Reds)
Since we lost the first match, I kept playing sticking even more to making a good result today. As a player, I could move with the ball often even though I made many mistakes from the 1st half. As a team we have kept a good atmosphere but I know that we have to stop conceding goals made from our mistakes; otherwise we won’t be able to win the upcoming AFC Championship in October. I understood the importance of improving our accuracy in moving the ball around and finishing. It was very good that we could win today, so we get ready well for the next match against Mexico.  We will keep winning.
