U-17 Japan Women’s National Team short-listed squad start training camp in Osaka

The U-17 Japan Women’s National Team short-listed squad, who will participate in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Jordan this September, started their training camp in Osaka on Monday 25 April.

On the first day, the squad, which included seven new faces, started with physical tests. They did some bounding to see how far they could jump, shuttle runs to measure their switching speed, 40-metre sprints, and the yo-yo test, which checked the players’ stamina. Then they moved onto some more exercises to refresh themselves and communicate with each other before finishing the morning session. In the afternoon, the players had a practice game. There were lots of aggressive and excellent performances, including from the new players.

The second day of the training camp on Tuesday 26 April will see a practice match against Daisho Gakuen High School (Women’s team).

Players' Comments

TSUTSUI Riko (CEREZO OSAKA SAKAI Girls)
It’s the first time that I’ve joined the U-17 Japan Women's National Team’s training camp. During the practice game in the afternoon, although I could improve the quality of kicking backwards in attack, in defence I still needed to work on 1-on-1 and reacting to the balls coming from behind. As we’ll play a training match tomorrow afternoon, I’d like to fix the problems that I found today. I want to make the remaining three days productive.

MIZUGUCHI Mayu (YAMATO SYLPHID U-18)
Though I felt very nervous at the beginning, I started to be a little relaxed, thanks to the support from others. In the practice match in this afternoon, I couldn’t position myself accurately, which resulted in us conceding a goal. So I’d like to improve my positioning when I play tomorrow. I also want to communicate a lot with others, displaying my playing style without fear of failure. I’ll play hard in the remaining three days.
