Match Report

After the match against KBZFC yesterday, Japan changed four starters for the match against U-19 Myanmar National Team. The match started off with Japan leading the pace early, as Japanese players possess and show better individual skills.

But Japan lacked combinations among players and didn't show good offence as a team. Then in the 21st minute a long ball from the Myanmar's half reached behind Japan's defenders. Goalkeeper Takagiwa came out and put it away, but Myanmar picked it up again and scored. Japan allowed the first goal of the match by letting the opponent sneak into their defence. The match continued still with Japan dominating the pace but scoring none, and ended with 1-0 lead by Myanmar.

In the second half, Tamura replaced Miyaichi to change the pace of the offence, but still Japan couldn't break through Myanmar's steady defence. Japan kept creating opportunities to tie the match by late shot attempts by Kaneko and Yuruki, but never finished with a goal. The match finished with the score of 0-1.

The match left Japan assignments to work on until AFC U-19 Championship in October, but it was a positive experience for the team to play two matches at Youth Training Centre, where the championship will take place.

Coach & Players' comments

Head Coach: Masakazu Suzuki
The trip turned out to be a good preview for the AFC U-19 Championship taking place here in Myanmar in October. I was looking forward to seeing how we can play our style of football in this hot weather. The matches saw many mistakes and left us many assignments. But I am thinking forward to start working on those assignments and eventually to play our style of football on this pitch in October. It was good that at this timing we could figure out what we had to do, and we could experience the hotel, the pitch condition, and characteristics of Myanmar National Team. Players will go back to their own clubs and play their styles. But when they come back to the national team, I will make sure players will understand and play our style without confusion.

MIURA Genta(Shimizu S-Pulse)
It was a tough match in this very hot weather. We couldn't concentrate and allowed a goal early. That affected the rest of the match. In the final qualification round, we will need to play in a hot weather like this and using different plays depending on the other team's play. So we will take advantage of this experience.

MISAO Kento(Verdy Tokyo 1969 Youth)
In this trip I got somewhat used to the weather and food in Myanmar. In the qualifier, I think having no stress off the pitch will lead to good performance on the pitch, so this was a good experience. We could win the first game, but it was disappointing we lost the second. I personally could show my strength. It is to defend the opponent's strength. I will need to do it throughout the game from start to finish and also we will need to get better on how we attack when the opponent plays very defensively. I will go back to my club, work hard, work on my assignments and try to be invited to the team again.

KANEKO Shota(Shimizu S-Pulse
This game's result turned out to be a very disappointing one, both for the team and for me personally. We were in a difficult situation, for example hot weather, how they used their time and referee's calls, but the biggest reason for our loss was that the quality of our play was very poor. We all go back to our own clubs after the trip, but I think it will be good if we keep working hard with a high standard in our minds.

After-match Dinner

After the match, the Myanmar Football Association kindly invited the team to dinner. After the dinner was served, the team received gifts from Myanmarese Players. Players of both countries enjoyed short but precious cultural exchange.
