Look-back on The soon-to-kick-off 14th All Japan Seniors(over 60)football tournament
22 May 2014
The 14th All Japan Seniors(over 60)football tournament will be held on Saturday 31 May. Here we look back the previous tournament.
15 teams in nine regions who won the qualifier and the hosts Akita prefecture’s selection team participated in the last year’s All Japan Seniors(over 60)football tournament. The 16 teams were allocated into four groups and the group winners advanced to the final round.
In Group A, Miyazaki Selection Team(Kyusyu 2)finished the group stage in a top position with two wins and one draw, and Saitama Senior 60(Kanto 1) and Tokyo Selection Team(Lazos27)won the Group B and Group C respectively with three consecutive wins. In Group D, Osaka Senior 60(Kansai)and AC Chiba(Kanto 3)both finished the stage with two wins and one draw. As the three games could not separate them, the Group D winner was decided by a lottery and Osaka Senior 60 fortunately won it.
In the day three of the competition, the final day, Saitama Senior edged Miyazaki Selection Team 1-0 in their semifinal. Meanwhile, Osaka Senior beat Tokyo Selection Team with a penalty shootout and reached the final. The final between Saitama Senior and Osaka Senior, who both had not conceded a goal, was a very competitive match. In the early stage, Saitama Senior tried to open the scoring with set pieces, but Osaka Senior’s desperate defense kept the game 0-0 until the end of the game. Osaka Senior launched a counterattack, attacking deep with short passes, and had some shots. However, their effort was denied in front of the goal and the game ended 0-0, leading to a penalty shootout. Saitama Senior missed twice with four Osaka Senior players converting the spot-kick and finally Osaka Senior won the tournament for the first time.
We will report the outlook for the 14th tournament.
