Comments

Marcelo Mendez, Head Coach
I knew it is going to be a very tough match against Portugal, a powerhouse in Europe. Not that I was expecting to be defeated and the squad was expecting to have a good image of generating a positive result. But Portugal was far more skillful than Japan and demonstrated the play worth winning the championship. I am not happy with the gap of 2-8 score. The Japan squad’s performance was not that bad. The big difference was if the player can make a decisive play. I think the tournament was a very good experience for the squad, especially for young players. Learning from the mistakes we made in this tournament, I want to revise them and make most of them in the upcoming games in Hungary.

MOREIRA Ozu(TOKYO LEQUIOS BS)
All the goals taken in today’s game were originated from our mistakes and the other side converted the chances without fail. On the other hand, we created many chances but failed to score the goal. But even in the situation of lagging behind, we followed the head coach’s instruction and implement them and fought according to the tactics instructed until the end without giving up hope of winning the game. I am really sorry to lose the game by big difference of goals. I am going to move to Hungary. We have to revise the mistakes we made and going to produce positive result. Every one of us is determined to fight hard so that we can become much stronger team.

MAKINO Shinji(LEON FUKUOKA)
It was long time ago I participated in international tournament since Tahiti World Cup and I realized again the difference of distance of the play. I felt that feeling at the first match against U.S.A. and revised it at the game against Hungary. The today’s game result was not favorable for us but I felt there are many things to learn from Portugal, the squad accustomed to winning a game. For example for the free kick they scored, they are savvy or malicia about how to get a free kick. On the other hand, I realized how decisive to give a free kick that is easily converted. The Japan squad has been careful about not to be charged. I want to accumulate my experience under the head coach Mendez making sure we are on the right track for winning the match.
