U-19 Japan National Team report (13 Aug): SBS Cup International Youth Soccer

14 August 2014

U-19 Japan National Team report (13 Aug): SBS Cup International Youth Soccer

On the third day of the camp, the head coaches and three players from each participating team from the SBS Cup International Youth Soccer had a welcome lunch together at Shizuoka Broadcasting Headquarters. After introducing the coaches and the presentation of commemorative items, the captains from each team expressed their teams’ goals for the competition, followed by a photo shoot.

In the afternoon, the Japan National Team’s players held a training session, in preparation for their first match.
They did some three-on-two passing and had nine-on-nine practice games with limited touches in a half-length pitch, followed by corner kick and fee kick practice. In the end they all practiced penalty kicks.

The SBS Cup International Youth Soccer will start on 14 August. The first match will be against Colombia, who had a good result in the previous World Cup and also have strong youth players. The players look forward to meeting Colombia. The U-19 Japan National Team take both the result and the content of the game seriously and hope this championship will give them some positive momentum for the coming 2014 AFC U-19 Championship in October.

Players' Comments

MIURA Genta (Shimizu S-Pulse)
I’m very pleased that we can play against strong teams, namely Colombia, South Korea and Shizuoka Youth and I’m grateful to the staff at this championship. I’d like to play proudly as a member of the national team, getting good results and playing in this excellent environment. I’d also like to build up positive momentum for the 2014 AFC U-19 Championship in October. Your support will be much appreciated.

TAKAGI Daisuke (Tokyo Verdy)
I’m very happy to be here, even though I was one of the additional members for the national team. I was gutted last year, as I wasn’t chosen for the SBS Cup. I’ve been struggling recently not being able to get good results playing in the national team. I’d like to prepare myself 100% in order to contribute to our team’s victory in the championship. I’ll do my best to play well and get good results in preparation for the AFC U-19 Championship in October.

ISHIDA Ryoma (Jubilo IWATA U-18)
I’m very much looking forward to knowing whether I can play my style or not in the first match against Colombia tomorrow. I’d like to get myself into good physical condition for that match in order to show off our style of football.
