Japan Women’s Futsal National Team camp report (23 Nov)

The three-day training camp for Japan Women’s Futsal national team had their last day, and the team played a training match against a men’s team, Y.S.C.C. futsal team.

Head coach Arihara said to the team in a meeting before the match “Let’s play as a united team. When someday makes a mistake or gets her down, we make it up for each other. We play with smiles and we enjoy the match.”

Sato Mayo, Koide Natsumi, Sakata Mutsumi, Sekinada Minako and Haruyama Ai started for Japan Women’s team. Early in the match, they often lost the ball because of the opponent’s quick pressure. In the 3rd minute, they lost the first goal of the match when a Y.S.C.C. player dashed into the middle and put a feed from the right into the goal. Four minutes later, Japan Women’s attempted to fight back by Yokoyama Junko intercepting an opponent’s pass and feeding into the middle and Fujita Yasuka shooting it. Hotta Eriko also recovered the ball deflected by the goalkeeper and shot her own, but it was again cleared by a defender. While Japan seemed to start gaining their attacking rhythm, their defence gave away three more straight goals to Y.S.C.C. in the 14th, 15th and 16th minutes.

Japan Women’s had Yoshimura Fumi, Hotta Eriko, Yokohama Junko, Koide Natsumi, and Sonoda Mizuki on the pitch at the beginning of the second half. As much as they wanted to score at least one goal, the deficit was expanded even more. They lost one in the 2nd minute, and five more were added for Y.S.C.C. before the match ended 0-10.

Now that their three-day training camp is completed, the team will play in the World Women’s Futsal Tournament in Costa Rica from 10 December.

Head Coach Comments

ARIHARA Masaaki, Head Coach
In this training camp, we tried to build this team based on some of the basic concepts that were brought to us by many foreign football coaches coming to Japan in the past: tempo, eye-contacts, triangle and small field.

So, through fundamentally tough workouts, this camp was designed to build our basic playing system, habituate our behaving principle and develop overall skills, which may have looked as very complicated to those who were watching from outside. Our players very quickly made necessary adjustments.

Now we are moving onto a phase where we need to keep building this team further for the international tournament in December and friendlies after that. This training camp was held in the middle of league matches taking place everywhere, but thanks to understanding and supports from many people involved, it turned out to be a very fruitful national team camp. I would like to take this moment to show my appreciation one more time.
