Match Report

Beach Soccer Japan National Team was in the good mood after 4 consecutive wins in this South American Tour and showed a very aggressive level of play from the beginning of the match against one of the strongest teams, Argentina. However, their determination didn’t work well; after 4 minutes of the 1st period, Argentina got the first goal from a free kick after a foul in front of Japan’s goal. Even after the opener, Japan lost another goal that was made from Argentina’s free kick and the 1st period ended on 0-2 to Argentina.

At the beginning of the 2nd period, AKAGUMA Takuya headed home from a cross to make it 1-2. However, Argentina got another free kick and they got their 3rd goal. With 2 minutes to go of the final period, YAMAUCHI Shusei scored Japan’s 2nd goal but were not able to get the equaliser and Japan lost the 1st match with Argentina 2-3.

Beach soccer has a distinctive rule where players can get a direct free kick from where you got a foul. In this match, Japan allowed all 3 goals from Argentina’s direct free kicks.

Head Coach and Players Comments

Marcelo MENDES, Head Coach
I’m not satisfied with the result of the match, but what the players did was satisfactory for me. They showed very good performances and they dominated most of the match. Japan made 34 shots where as Argentina had only 12. We just couldn’t score regardless of those scoring opportunities but it was a good lesson for the next match and I think they got some confidence today. Tomorrows match is the last one of this Tour so we just want to win before going back to Japan.

MATSUO Naoya (Pracia Yamaguchi)
It was a good experience for us to play against Argentina, a very strong team. We took control at the beginning of the match but after that we made difficult situations for ourselves by making mistakes. Considering we had more shots than them, I really wanted to win this match. Personally I could make some chances but could not nail them down. I want to get a good result in the next final match.

YAMAUCHI Shusei(G.C.Nerine)
We were in a positive mood after the 4 consecutive wins in Brazil, but it is a shame that we lost against Argentina today. However, I think we still did some good things today in terms of our aggressive attitude and what we did in the match. Tomorrow we have the 2nd match against Argentina; we really want to win, keeping up our level of play.

TABATA Teruki (TOKYO LEQUIOS BS)
We allowed Argentina 3 goals due to our careless fouls. Apart from them, I’m satisfied both with our defense and offense. We need to improve as a team to reduce our mistakes and maximise our scoring opportunities. Tomorrow, we want to get the good result in our last match of this Tour, correcting our issues.
