Match Report
U-15 Japan National team had a friendly match against U-15 Indonesia National team in their first overseas camp. The pitch condition was wet due to the previous day’s heavy rain. Indonesia attacked with an intensive press defense and long-distance passes from the beginning. Japan saved its goal from some shots, but allowed the opponent’s first goal from a penalty caused by a foul on the Indonesian player who received a cross in space between MF and DF. After this goal, Japan gradually took control by moving the ball around. On 39 minutes, Japan equalised by TANAHASHI Akito’s heading in from the free kick by SUGAWARA Yukinari.
At half time, the Head Coach Mr. MORIYAMA Yoshiro gave a pep talk to the players: “You don’t have any dynamism at all. You haven’t even tried some risky things and you are afraid of making mistakes. No challenge at all. You guys are already too negative.” Mr. MORIYAMA’s talk changed the players and Japan got their play style back from the beginning of the 2nd half. Japan got some chances made by SEKO Ayumu’s long-distance pass and better combination contributed by KUBO Takefusa’s dribbling, but they couldn’t score. Heavy rain started and that made it difficult for Japan to move the ball around. On 74 minutes, Indonesia got a small chance and made a long-distance pass to a front player who scored the second goal. The match finished with 1-2; Japan could not finish their first match in the overseas camp with victory.
Comments
TANI Kosei (Gamba Osaka Junior Youth)
Since it was our first match, we were just so rigid at the beginning and we allowed Indonesia to take control. I noticed that there was a speedy player and we had to build up defense for him, but I couldn’t work well enough to communicate with DF and MF; this might be one of the reasons we couldn’t defend our goal. Considering we couldn’t be consistent due to the weather change, we want to work hard to build up a robust team which doesn’t care about any weather. In this camp, I want to improve combination play for example in which moment we have to move the ball around, and in what timing we attack the opponent’s goal.
SEKO Ayumu (Cerezo Osaka U-15)
Today, how we started the match wasn’t good and Indonesia attacked us getting the opening goal when we were not really ready for the game. We tried press defense from the front line to cut their pass work, but it didn’t work well since we couldn’t grasp a good sense of timing. In the 2nd half, we kept our press defense from front, not being afraid of mistakes, and that helped us to get into the game, making some opportunities. However, we allowed their 2nd goal after their set play and this is a result of us not having had a good level of concentration. I want to reflect what was wrong today, and work hard to improve the quality of “pass & control” session and our communication in the training sessions from tomorrow. We have another match with Indonesia day after tomorrow, so I just want to beat them this time, keeping our level of play.
MIYASHIRO Taisei (Kawasaki Frontale U-15)
I didn’t have any experience in playing in such a pitch condition like today and I couldn’t show any of my strengths. I understood very well that daily training with a lot of attention to improving our fitness, pass accuracy, and combination is very important. From tomorrow, I will show my strong fighting spirit; that’s what our Head Coach strongly demands.
SUGAWARA Yukinari (Nagoya Grampus U15)
Today we were mentally weak not keeping ourselves very strong even in front of the ball. Indonesian players were so aggressive to get loose balls or goal kicks from GK, whereas we were just passive, waiting for the ball coming to us. How we switch ourselves to defend our goal when the opponents are very pushy and improving our scoring accuracy are always important for us and we have training for them, but today, I noticed more seriously that we need to improve these issues. I want to share what we need to improve with my teammates to make our training sessions more productive. I want to win the next match with Indonesia.
TANAHASHI Akito (Yokohama F-Marinos Junior Youth)
The 1st half was difficult for us since we couldn’t get into the game well. When I scored, the only thing I did was following SUGAWARA since I knew that he makes a good finishing pass. Today we couldn’t make a good combination well such as having a mutual understanding about when to switch from defensive to offensive and could not attack as much as we wanted. Personally, it was good that I could be related myself in any of our counter attacks. I want to keep my level of play in the next match.
