Match Report

U-19 Japan Women's National Team clobbered Uzbekistan 6-0 in their second match of the group stage in the AFC U-19 Women's Championship China 2015 on 20 August.

Japan, who entered the game substituting all players but goalkeeper MATSUMOTO Mamiko from their previous game against Australia, tried to actively aim at scoring a goal from early.

In the 5th minute, midfielder SONODA Mizuki received from midfielder ANZAI Yuka, who cut in the middle drilling from a side, netted a goal from just outside the box to give Japan a lead. Japan kept attacking after that, but were unable to add another.

Yet in the 25th minute, forward SEIKE Kiko connected a cross from midfielder MATSUBARA Shiho into the goal net to widen the lead for Japan. In the 35th minute, Seike again scored, this time with a one-two play with Anzai. A minute later, midfielder HASEGAWA Yui fired a middle shot into the net with her right leg and Japan entered halftime up 4-0.

In the 46th minute, Seike reacted a cross from Hasegawa and connected it to complete a hat-trick. Japan had hard times capitalizing on their scoring chances afterward, but in the 77th minute, Sonoda reacted to a through pass from midfielder MIZUTANI Yuki and scored to make it 6-0. Japan earned some corner kick opportunities after that, but weren't able to add a goal.

They won their second contest 6-0. With the victory over Uzbekistan, Japan have qualified through the group stage. They will now play for the first place in Group A against China on the 22nd.

Coach and Players' Comments

TAKAKURA Asako, Coach
We entered the game changing all the starting members except for the goalkeeper, but today's squad weren't our second team. All the players we have on this team have high quality.

I wanted them to score more goals, but each player showed what she had. I haven't decided our members for the next game, but we would certainly like to have a good preparation.

SEIKE Kiko (Urawa Reds Ladies)
I got in the game with the mind-set to outscore China (who racked up nine goals against Uzbekistan) in today's game. It was my first hat-trick in an international game. Today's best goal was the second one that I created a space with a one-two play with Anzai.

I was practicing to have a shot from that angle so many times. Throughout this tournament, I would like to polish my foot techniques and post plays.

SONODA Mizuki (Musashigaoka College)
On scoring two goals, I feel like I only scored two. I had more occasions that I tried to sneak in narrow spaces in the middle, so I would like to work on being able to use the sides more effectively to stretch the opponents out and then use the middle. We want nothing but a win agains China. We would like to qualify through the group league in the first place.

HAZA Hisui (Nippon Sport Science University)
It was a game that we scored goals, but I tried to stabilize the defensive line to connect it for better attacks for our side. When we added more players up front by going with three backs in the second half, I was conscious of caring the risks of taking counter attacks by the opponents.

I have an impression that China are a team that have techniques and speed. We want to hold them to as few goal as possible and control the line in the middle well.
