Yokohama F・Marinos - MIO Biwako Shiga Emperor’s Cup match suspended due to heavy rain storm; Resumes on 11 October

Match Report

Yokohama F・Marinos (J1)   1-1: Game canceled (0-1, 1-0: Game suspended)   MIO Biwako Shiga (Shiga)

A total of five second-round matches of the 95th Emperor’s Cup All-Japan Championship on 6 September. Yokohama F・Marinos (J1) took MIO Biwako Shiga (Shiga) at Nippatsu Mitsuzawa Stadium.

MIO Biwako Shiga, a JFL side, bravely opposed to the J1 club and their attacking attitude paid off early. Two minutes into the game, KOKURYOU Ippei got the ball from the opponents in the mid-field and quickly sent a long pass to the front. MURAKAMI Seiya, who ran into a space between a pair of Marinos defenders, trapped with his chest and netted it into the left corner of the goal, watching the move of Yokohama goalkeeper IIKURA Hiroki.

Having taken the lead, Shiga kept exhibiting hard plays afterward. They matched up with the opposing players tightly, and although they allowed Marinos to dominate on the ball possession, they wouldn’t let them create decisive scoring opportunities. Biwako continued their defence with high concentration and entered halftime.

Entering the second half, Yokohama sent two new players onto the pitch. NAKAGAWA Teruhito, one of the two, lived up to the coaches’ expectation. Right after they allowed Biwako to have a critical chance, Nakagawa ran into the box reacting to a long pass and withdrew a penalty.

Ademilson made the penalty to tie the contest for F・Marinos. Yokohama gained the momentum with that and their MIKADO Yuta threatened the Shiga goal with a powerful middle shot. But the heavy rain that began falling from the second half got very strong, as the water was accumulated on the pitch and they players couldn’t even move the ball.

The players desperately tried to get the ball, nevertheless. But the officials stopped the game on 74th minute and 14 minutes later, the contest was suspended due to the players safety.

The organizers announced how they’d deal with the game on the 9th. It will resume from 28 minutes, 16 seconds into the second half, where the game was suspended, this time at Nissan Stadium at 1 p.m. on 11 October.

Players' Comments

NAKAGAWA Teruhito (Yokohama F・Marinos)
When I came in, we were behind, so as our coach told me, I played paying attention to finding a space behind their defensive line. On the play to earn the penalty, I got a good pass, and I watched the goalkeeper coming out and dodged him. The move resulted in the penalty, but I’m a little disappointed that I couldn’t score that by myself. On his first professional game appearance, I was able to get in the pitch with a good tension. I think that it worked just fine for me.

MURAKAMI Seiya (MIO Biwako Shiga)
(On his first goal) Because SAITO Tatsuya went ahead and withdrew the attention of the defenders, I went from behind them. I'm not a right-footed kicker, but swan my leg as hard as I could.

The game was suspended because of the heavy storm, we wanted to keep playing no matter what. Most of us have our own jobs, it's hard for us to travel and our supporters come from different places. But during the game, we did what we wanted to do and had the confidence to played on par with them. I'm not sure how the game will resume, but we'll do our best given the circumstance.
