Match Report
U-15 Japan National Team, nicknamed “00JAPAN”, played training matches on the fourth day of their training camp against AC Nagano Parceiro U-18 and Ichiritsu Nagano High School. Since they were the last set of matches they had before heading for Mongolia, all the players attempted to come out with a great deal of focus.
In the first match against AC Nagano Parceiro U-18, Japan successfully created their rhythm early in the first half, but did not reach crucial scoring opportunities. In the 11th minute, forward NAKAMURA Keito met a cross with a head from defender SUGAWARA Yukinari, but it went off target.
Then in the 13th minute, midfielder KUBO Takefusa received the ball in the middle, dribbled it up, and fired a shot, which hit a defender and went into the net for the opener. In the 25th minute, it was midfielder TANAHASHI Akito who scored the second goal by putting a cross from Sugawara into the goal.
Immediately after that, the Japanese squad seemed to stop focusing. They allowed the opponents to attack from their bad pass, and goalkeeper TANI Kosei barely saved the goal. And in the 41st minute, they conceded the first goal after the opponents attacked the Japan’s right flank and fed a cross from there. The first half finished with Japan’s one goal lead.
During the half time, coach MORIYAMA Yoshiro fired up his players, saying “We are making too many passes backward. In the next 45 minutes, we will keep attacking and attacking seamlessly enough to leave no time for them to attack.” Reenergised by their coach, Japan’s offensive end started the second half very actively. In the 48th minute, forward MIYASHIRO Taisei initiated the offence with his dribbling to find Tanahashi, who converted Miyashiro’s pass for Japan’s third goal. Then Japan’s offence started to explode.
Midfielder HIRAKAWA Rei from long range in the 55th minute, Nakamura in the 62nd, Tanahashi after Nakamura’s miss in the 64th and then Nakamura again in the 65th all scored each to give their side 7-1 lead. Japan did not stop there and continued well-focused offence. Miyashiro’s fierce strike in the 68th, Tanahashi again from defender IWAI Ryuji’s cross in the 78th, and lastly Kubo in the 84th added their own and the match finished with Japan’s 10-1 rout.
The second match was against Ichiritsu Nagano High School. Since Japan intended to replace the whole starting line-up even when they did not have enough players, they had to borrow three players from the AC Nagano Parceiro U-15 squad. Japan went on an attacking surge from the beginning and forward YAMADA Hiroto scored two goals in the 6th and 8th minutes by sneaking into the space behind the opposing defenders.
In the 19th minute, midfielder KATSURA Rikuto scored the third goal of his squad by inducing a mistake by the opposing goalkeeper. Before the first half ended, Japan conceded one goal in the 20th minute when the opponents broke through Japan’s left flank and put in the deflection ball from goalkeeper Aoki who denied a shot once.
The second half saw the deadlock continue from the last part of the first half until forward MIKUNI Kenedeiebusu forcefully struck his shot into the left corner of the goal in the 79th minute for Japan’s fourth goal. In the 83rd minute, Katsura composedly converted a penalty opportunity that Mikuni acquired and the scoring then was 5-1.
In the 87th minute HIGASHI Shunki beautifully met a through ball from Katsura to expand the lead even further. The match ended after that with the scoring being 6-1 to give Japan two straight wins. The team head for Narita tomorrow and then finally go on to Mongolia the next day.
* ”00 JAPAN” is the nickname of the U-15 Japan National Team that consists of members who were born after 2000.
Players' Comments
SUGAWARA Yukinari (Nagoya Grampus U15)
In today’s training match, as coach Moriyama Yoshiro pointed out during the half time, our mistake was that our defence was passive and not strong in many situations in the first half. What was good in the second half were we changed our mindset, our collectiveness got better, and we were more creative in terms of our attacking variation.
My personally, I was able to send off better cross balls. I want to keep my training up to improve the quality of my shots and through balls. Finally we will be heading for Mongolia, but there are many players who couldn’t get to where we are now. So we will be united and make sure to advance to the final qualifying round.
MIYASHIRO Taisei (Kawasaki Frontale U-15)
I am looking forward to seeing how well I can play my style in a tense away environment at the AFC U-16 Championship qualifiers. Whatever situation it is, I want to chase my goal which is to score goals as a forward.
In the first half of today’s match, there were many times when we couldn’t keep the ball up front and lost it easily, but after discussing with my teammates, our transition between offence and defence and our intercepting the ball got quicker in the second half. It was good for us to be able to correct the mistakes of the first half. Until the first match of the tournament, I want to improve the quality of passes leading to shots and try to make sure that my shots will always go in.
