Match Report
U-15 Japan National Team, nicknamed 00Japan, started their campaign with a victory on 16 September as the Japanese side beat Mongolia 17-0 in the opening match of the AFC U-16 Championship India 2016 Qualifiers.
Japan went aggressively from the start. In the 6th minute, forward MIYASHIRO Taisei earned a penalty kick, and defender SEKO Ayumu composedly put it into the net for the opening goal. In the 8th minute, midfielder KUBO Takefusa met midfielder SUZUKI Toichi's cross for his team's second goal. Japan dominated the possession and did not allow any gap, as Miyashiro received Kubo's through ball to net the third goal in the 16th minute.
In the 24th minute, Kubo fired a direct free kick into the back of the net to make the score 4-0. In the 33rd minute, forward TANAHASHI Akito ran through for defender SUGAWARA Yukinari's through ball to give his side a five-goal lead. Japan continued to attack further. In the 34th minute, Miyashiro tenaciously tapped in a cross from defender IWAI Ryuji for Japan's 6th goal.
In the 37th minute, after a corner kick was cleared by a Mongolian player, midfielder HIRAKAWA Rei stabbed a powerful long-range shot for the seventh goal, which even Mongolian fans gave a standing ovation. In the 42nd minute, Suzuki netted midfielder FUKUOKA Shimpei's cross to put his side further ahead as 8-0. Kubo found the back of the net twice more in the 44th minute and one minute into stoppage time to end the first half 10-0.
Coach MORIYAMA Yoshiro said to the squad at halftime, "Let's keep up your tries, get as many goals as possible." And the second half also saw Japan keep attacking. In the 49th minute, substitute midfielder NAKAMURA Keito tapped in a deflection of Miyashiro's shot for the 11th goal. Japan did not allow the opponents to pick up the rhythm. Sugawara scored in the 51st minute and set up Nakamura's goal with a cross in the 56th minute.
Kubo scored his fifth goal of the day in the 60th minute to make it 14-0. Although Japan's attacking momentum appeared to slow down in the late stage of the match, HIRAKARA Rei scored in the 72nd and 79th minutes before Miyashiro added one more in the 83rd minute, which gave his side a 17-goal advantage. The Japanese players kept their concentration until the end while the team, who continued to attack throughout the match, won the tournament opener.
The next fixture of the 00Japan is against Hong Kong to be held on 20 September.
* ”00 JAPAN” is the nickname of the U-15 Japan National Team that consists of members who were born after 2000.
Players' Comments
GK #1 TANI Kosei (Gamba Osaka Junior Youth)
In the tensed mood where we can feel only in the official competitions, we were able to dominate the opponents on both offence and defence and win with a big lead. That's something we can take advantage of for the next one. As an individual, I was aware of how I can do coaching for risk management and actually got it done. But sometimes I kept my eyes on the ball too long. I need to concentrate on the match throughout the 90 minutes and manage risks.
The upcoming Hong Kong match won't be easy, so we will refresh our mind. And we will keep up our work in the training as a team with our eye's set on actual matches.
MF #4 HIRAKAWA Rei (F.C. Tokyo U-15 Musashi)
It was good we dominated the opponents from the start and win the match with so many goals. The match turned out to be a great experience. We learned how we could break down the opponents who sat back in their end and felt the sense of tension that the Asian qualifiers have.
Individually, I was able to score with a shot outside of the box to execute effective attacks against the opponents who stayed back. From tomorrow, we will refresh our mind and get ready for the next Hong Kong match.
MF #5 SEKO Ayumu (Cerezo Osaka U-15)
In today's match, it was good we were able to break through the defence collectively, taking advantage of various ideas against the opponents sitting back. We were also able to create chances through quick passing moves and repeatedly send long balls to space open.
On the other hand, the quality of passes was poor at times as an individual and as a team. Starting tomorrow, we will brace ourselves and work on training for the upcoming Hong Kong match. Substitute players call out aloud and their preparation and support are wonderful. We will all pull together to be qualified for the tournament.
