Match Report

U-16 Japan Women’s National Team had a training match (30min.×3) against Azul Claro Numazu U-14 on the 5th day of their training camp. After this camp, they will head to the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship.

After the start of the match, in the 4th minute, they allowed the opponent the opening goal due to their own mistake.

Japan gradually took control of the match, trying to equalise as soon as possible, but they couldn’t finish any of their shots. In the 20th minute, WAKISAKA Reina thread a deep pass and MIURA Haruka tried to catch it in front of the goal, but it didn’t go in successfully. The first game ended 0-1.

In the 47th minute of the second game, the right midfielder YONEI Honoka raised a cross but an opponent’s defender cleared it. Miura picked up the cleared ball and took a shot which successfully equalised the score.

In the 78th minute of the 3rd game, Japan’s forward TAKAHASHI Hana stole the ball from an opponent’s defender and she passed it to Wakisaka when she was overlapping the right wing. That cross was cleared over the goal line by an opponent’s defender. At the corner kick after that, TAKAHASHI found the cross by midfielder KARAHASHI Mayu but it went slightly to the left of the goal. U-16 Japan Women’s National Team ended its practice match 1-1.

Coach and Players' Comments

KUSUNOSE Naoki, Coach
We have had the last training match of this camp against Azul Claro Numazu U-14. From the beginning, the players were discouraged against the speedy chasing of men's players and they ended up allowing them the first goal; they made a mistake in buildup play.

In the last game, we adjusted positioning which allowed our two top players to regulate play more, and let them move quicker both vertically and horizontally; they could keep the ball and gradually became to steal the ball more. They could make some good chances after the goal which they could make after stealing the ball in the front line, but they could not finish the chances successfully. This is our issue now.

We will clarify the issues found in this camp to correct them and we want to show the best of our performance in the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship.

MF #19  YONEI Honoka (JFA Academy Fukushima)
We conceded a goal at the beginning of the first game, so in the second game our side wing players focused more and we could eventually make good space and equalised. Comparing to the first day of the camp, we have more communication on the pitch but we still need to do that more. The actual match has 90 minutes so I want to have a good care of my body by having a good diet so that I can keep running well until the end of the match. We want to get ready well for the first match.

FW #11  UEKI Riko (Nippon TV Menina)
Today’s challenge was to have more communication on the pitch as a team. It was good that each of us from various positions could raise our voice to guide especially when the ball stopped moving around. We did badly in the beginning but we could start working hard after that. I think it was a good thing.

However, we conceded a goal at first and we couldn’t make good forms since we had few ideas amongst ourselves about how to move the ball around in front of the goal. We want to promote more of our mutual understandings as a team. The AFC U-16 Women’s Championship is beginning very soon, so I want to prepare well including my physical conditioning. As a team we will win this championship of Asia and qualify for the World Cup.

GK #18  YONEZAWA Moeka (Hinomoto Gakuen Senior High School)
Since U-14 men’s players were speedier and more powerful in striking the ball, we had more time to defend allowing them to control the match. Gradually we got familiar with their speed and strong kicks and we started to move the game with our pace, and we could get a goal eventually. In Asia, I assume that most of teams are just like them with speed and powerful kicks, so I will improve the issues found today before the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship.
