U-19 Japan National Team work out ahead of second group stage match in AFC U-19 Championship

Sat. 15 October

The U-19 Japan National Team beat Yemen 3-0 in their first match of the AFC U-19 Championship Bahrein 2016. In the following morning after the contest, the starting lineup against Yemen took a walk around their hotel and had recovery training such as stretching. Meanwhile, 12 substitutes worked out as usual on a pitch in the evening. Despite a small number of players involved, they seemed to be focused ahead of their second group stage match against Iran to be held two days later.

Sun. 16 October

The U-19 Japan National Team had just one more day remaining until their second group stage match against Iran. As the opponents drew with Qatar 1-1 in their first match, Japan have a chance to secure passage to the knockout stage (quarterfinals) with a win over Iran tomorrow before playing their third match. The team had a 40-minute meeting and watched video footage of the tomorrow's opponents before going out onto the pitch for training with a picture for the next day match. The evening training included workouts such as repetitions of defending against Iran's attacks.

Players' Comments

DF #6  HATSUSE Ryo (Gamba Osaka)
If I get a chance to play tomorrow, I will try to go all out for the team more than any other player. The first half in our first match against Yemen was not really good. Tomorrow, I will try to get well prepared even before going out for the match and make a full effort from the start to bring momentum to the team. The team's whole atmosphere is so good, and everyone communicates with each other. We want to show such a good atmosphere in matches as well. With a win tomorrow, we will get a spot for the knockout stage, so we all want to work hard to get a win.

DF #5  TOMIYASU Takehiro (Avispa Fukuoka)
I see the tomorrow's the opponents Iran are better than the first opponents Yemen. It will be a tougher match, but we will try to work as one. As a defender, I will commit myself in front of goal and be responsible to outwill the opponents if I have a chance to play. Iran have got strong driving power and use a lot of long balls, but we want to work together in defence including the goalkeeper and hopefully end up keeping them from scoring.

MF #7  KAMIYA Yuta (Shonan Bellmare)
In the first match against Yemen a couple of days ago, we started off badly. So in the tomorrow's Iran match, I will try to get involved with the ball and building the team's rhythm as a defensive midfielder. Iran have got height and physical strength. So when we get a set-piece, I will try to see the situation and kick appropriate balls. I will also try to keep compact defence and hopefully help my team win with both offensive and defensive efforts.
