U-19 Japan futsal squad have valuable practice sessions on second day of training camp

The U-19 Japan National Futsal Team short-listed squad entered the second day of their training camp in Aichi Prefecture. They had two practice sessions this day. In the morning, they were divided into groups of three and worked on exchanging passes and initiating attack with a theme focused on the movements to draw passes and get through defenders with give-and-go plays.

Including the training sessions on the first day of the camp, coach Suzuki frequently stopped the practice to explain the important points so that they would fully understand the fundamentals of futsal. Then in the latter part of the morning session, they widened the pitch size to go through their offensive and defensive plays in game-time settings.

In the afternoon, the goalkeepers began their practice before other players and underwent specialised training. Under GK coach SADANAGA, they worked particularly on kicking accuracy and throwing, even though it lasted only for a short time.

In the subsequent practice session with the whole team, the players were told to create more offensive options while they worked on set plays as well. They wrapped it up with an intrasquad scrimmage, while showcasing the things they learned since the first day of training.

Players' Comments

HIGUCHI Takeshi (Ryutsu Keizai University/Football Club)
I think we had great practice sessions in the morning and afternoon on the second day. We were aware of communicating amongst us, while inspiring each other. I feel that our quality in offence and defence is improving. We would like to continue working with a good atmosphere and do our best on the third day.

DABO Salubajunior (Tokyo International University/Football Club)
It was hard since there were things I did not fully understand in our practice sessions on the first day. But my teammates and coach explained to me, and I got to understand the moves in futsal. I think I performed better on the second day. But I am not satisfied with my current performance and I will keep displaying my strength on the final day. Also, I was able to learn so many things off the pitch by communicating with my teammates. I want to do my best to be selected on the national team for the AFC U-20 Futsal Championship next May.

MATSUOKA Rimu (FC Tokyo U-18)
This is my first time to practice futsal, and I had to spend so much time on thinking about how to play futsal on the first day. But gradually, I got used to it as I received help from my teammates and, then, I started to comprehend my coach’s instructions. I think I got to display my strength in the end. We had such a valuable time in the last two days and I truly enjoyed practicing futsal. Now, I am into the game. Tomorrow is the final day, but I would like to get better in every aspect of the game prior to returning to my club.
