Japan Futsal National squad work on set pieces at training camp

Tuesday 13 December saw the second day of the training camp and the team held a training session each in the morning and in the afternoon.

In the morning, the players worked on ‘defence with numerical imbalance’, reviewing clearing, which they focused on in the first day of the camp, and practised kick-ins. Coach Bruno GARCIA gave instructions to the players during training to motivate them on the court.

In the afternoon, the goalkeepers held a separate session prior to the field players’ training. They attended a 45-minute practice, focusing on improving goalkeepers’ essential skills, including accurate throw-ins and reactions to uninterrupted shots.

Then the whole team went through several patterns of set pieces, followed by a practice game to finish the session. The players concentrated on showing what they have been practising and applying them even more flexibly in the game, while responding to the coach’s demands and maintaining a high level of concentration.

During supper, the whole team celebrated NIBUYA Kazuhiro’s 29th birthday with a cake.

Players' Comments

TAMURA Kasho (FUGADOR SUMIDA)
This is my first time I have been called up to the national-team camp. It’s been a very productive one so far, and I have been able to concentrate during practice and work in an excellent atmosphere. Although it is tough to understand the team’s tactics and systems, it’s been a precious experience for me to play in this environment. As I have learned a lot from other players, I’d like to display how much I have improved back in my club.

KATO Minami (SHRIKER OSAKA)
I’m proud that I could join the national squad this time after the camp in October. I’d like to showcase my strength, thinking of what kind of plays will be demanded in the future. Although there is still a lot to learn, including set pieces, I’d like to improve myself, absorbing new things by thinking flexibly.

NIBUYA Kazuhiro (VASAGEY OITA)
This is the second training camp after coach Bruno took the managing role. The players stayed focused in each session, raising the level of the team through training. I’d like to communicate with others off the pitch as well, in order to improve the team and make this camp even more productive. Since today was my birthday, all my teammates celebrated it at supper. I am happy to spend my birthday here as a player of the Japan national squad. I’ll practice with my full strength from now, bearing in mind that everyday is a competition.
