Match Report
The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Bahamas 2017 kicked off and The Japan Beach Soccer National Team faced Poland in their first match on 28 April. While Japanese supporters were sending big cheers from the stands, Japanese players entered the pitch. The match kicked-off under the very strong sunlight.
Japan began playing with a good level of concentration. In the 4th minute, GOTO Takasuke received the ball from OBA Takaaki and scored the opening goal with an over-head shot. After a minute, Japan’s goalkeeper TERUKINA Shingo threw the ball to TABATA Teruki, and he chested it to Goto. Again he scored with an over-head shot. Japan scored two goals in the beginning of the match and got the rhythm to shut-out Poland’s powerful attacks. The first period ended with Japan leading 2-0.
Japan kicked-off the second period. In the 4th minute, Oba was felled in the area and got a penalty. Japan scored their third goal. They then conceded a goal from a free-kick, but Japan immediately moved the ball around well and Goto applied the finishing touch to make it 4-1.
Poland scored another goal from a free-kick after the team’s key player SAGANOWSKI faced Japan’s MOREIRA Ozu. However, Japan was well-united; front player Goto kept his consistency and made it 5-2. Then IINO Tomoyuki, who is playing for the national team for the first time, scored an additional goal. After the goal, KOMAKI Masayuki passed the ball to Iino and YAMAUCHI Shusei headed it in to the goal. The second period ended 7-2.
Just before the final period, Japan’s players and staff made a circle to cheer-up each other by saying “let’s win this match”. Even though they conceded one goal by the veteran player Saganowski from his free-kick, Japan didn’t allow them find their rhythm. 1 minute after conceding the goal, Japan scored an additional goal by Goto’s over-head shot. Then Yamauchi scored a free-kick before the end of the match. As a result, Japan beat Poland 9-4 and took one step forward to go through to the next stage.
Japan’s second match of the group stage will be against Tahiti at 15:30 on 29 April (4:30 on 1 May in Japan time).
Coach's and Player's Comments
Marcelo MENDES, Coach
Since it was very important for us to win the first match, we had felt a big pressure before the match. I think that this victory brings the players a sense of confidence. The play which our players showed in the match today is what they usually do in training. It was good that they could do what they usually do. Because of the techniques that each player has, we have been able to show the beautiful play of beach soccer in the World Cup today. I was bit relieved to make the score 9-3 2 minutes before the end of the match. The best thing was that we could manage the match as we had planned.
FP #11 GOTO Takasuke (Tokyo Verdy BS)
It was good that I could score many goals with the forms I am good at –they are the ones I practice in my usual training. Four of the five goals I scored today were over-head shots. I am particularly happy when I could score with an over-head shot when facing a bigger Polish player. We could win today because we could keep our consistency when we had to score. There are 4 players who play in the same position, so the chance to play on the pitch is inevitably limited. I want to play more on the pitch.
