Match Report

The match started with the Japan Beach Soccer National Team showing great aggression, but it was Oman who scored the opening goal in the second minute. Despite conceding the lead, Japan continued with their 2-2 formation, and managed to equalise in the seventh minute, when their goalkeeper SHIBAMOTO Shinya carried the ball upfront before firing a shot that found the back of the net.

In the ninth minute, Oman took advantage of an errant pass from Shibamoto to KIBUNE Yuki to retake the lead, but Japan managed to score back in the 11th minute, when they converted a free kick earned by AKAGUMA Takuya in the 11th minute.

After finishing the first period 2-2, Japan started off the second period by conceding a goal to Oman. Despite controlling the ball possession, Japan struggled to evade the pressure applied by their opponents, while Oman anticipated for their opportunity to counter. However, in the eighth minute, OBA Takaaki displayed a superb pass-and-go with Akaguma to break through and score the equaliser.

In the third period, Japan once again conceded in the early minutes, when the Omani goalkeeper delivered a long throw to the pivot, who scored with a bicycle shot. Japan struggled to pick up their pace after this goal but managed to equalise for the fourth time in this match, when MOREIRA Ozu converted a free kick in the 11th minute.

Following a scoreless overtime, the match went into a penalty shootout, where Oman edged Japan 5-4, after Japan’s fifth spot taker MATSUDA Kosuke missed the target.

Players' Comments

GK #12 SHIBAMOTO Shinya (Tokyo Verdy BS)
Since this was our final practise match before the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup, our coach instructed us to play as though we were competing in the tournament. However, we ended up conceding early in the match and ended up losing in penalties. I am disappointed that I couldn’t stop a single shot in the shoot-out, so that is an aspect I must work on ahead of the tournament. I terms of offence, I was able to score goals in both yesterday and today’s match, so I hope to do the same at the tournament. The Asian Cup is an important tournament that leads to the World Cup, but we must first give our all in the matches in front of us and strive to win the tournament.

FP #8 MATSUO Naoya (Averdade Kumamoto BS)
This was our final prep match ahead of the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup. Going into the match, we knew that we could dominate the ball possession, but we ended up losing the match in penalties after conceding multiple goals from our own mistakes. We are expecting more matches like this in the Asian Cup, so we must be able to capitalise on the opportunities, while also making quick transitions between our offence and defence. In terms of defence, we saw many flaws that need to be addressed before the tournament. We will do our best to prepare ourselves to win the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup.
