One day training sessions for referees in charge of JFL matches was held on Monday 3 of November at J-GREEN Sakai.
The objectives of this training were: “teamwork between referee and assistant referees” and “how to deal with any situation after making a decision”. In the morning, participants had a group discussion using some matches from the current season. In the afternoon, they had a practical training session on the ground and some university players helped with this training.
Comment from instructor
MAYUZUMI Toshiyuki, Chief Instructor
We worked on two objectives which were “teamwork between referee and assistant referees” and “how to deal with any situation after making a decision.”
I appreciate the other instructors for supporting the participants so they could work very hard in today’s training. I expect these referees to show good performances until the end of the season.
Comments from participants
TSUNO Yohei, Class 1 Referee (Nagasaki)
This was the last JFL training of this season.
With objectives of “Cooperation between referee and assistant referees”, we had a group discussion using some videos so we could share some key lessons. We talked about what was good and what wasn’t good, and we also discussed about what the referee in the video should have done instead. We could do some good analysis of our colleagues during the discussion time and that made me feel that I want to improve the quality of our judgments as a whole.
NOMURA Osamu, Class 1 Referee (Hyogo)
At this training, we discussed how a team of referees can cooperate well to have better game-control under the objective of teamwork of referees. For a group discussion, some previous examples which were used as issues to talk about: a situation where referees actually need teamwork, elements which can encourage teamwork, and skills that referees need to use for achieving teamwork. During the discussion, we also prioritised the issues we particularly need to consider.
Having cooperation between referee and assistant referees in a team of referees is important for good game control. As an assistant referee, I could deeply consider what is valuable support for referee in this occasion and it was very good for me. Toward the end of this season, every judgment we make will be very important. While we will have more elements that we will have to make difficult judgments, I want to review what I have learned today to achieve good game control as a team of referees.
