JFA collaborated with a JICA project in Sudan - former Japan international NAGASHIMA Akihiro held a football class
23 February 2016
Former Japan international NAGASHIMA Akihiro visited Sudan and hold a football class for local children. This activity took place along with "Nantokashinakya! Project", which is a part of the multi-sectoral project to solve issues in developing countries. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) takes part in this project as well as the project of waste management in Sudan.
The football class took place for 50 local children with support of JICA volunteers. After passing and shooting drills, the children were divided into age-groups to have mini-games and enjoyed running around the pitch.
In this event, JFA donated used training jerseys of Japan National Team, and J. League provided footballs to the participants of the class. The donations were offered based on the partnership agreement amongst JICA, JFA, and J. League which was signed last year.
This is a part of “Sports for Tomorrow” project of Japanese Government, which is an international cooperation programme to support over 10 million people in 100 countries through sports activities.
Comment from the instructor
NAGASHIMA Akihiro
The children had very high level of physical strength and aggressive playing style. There is a great possibility of fast growth of football in Sudan. Even for a short time, I was very happy to feel the participants’ high motivation. I am looking forward to a day when Sudan will play against Japan in a future World Cup!
